This Rosemary image is a mirror piece to a concept that Smudge
smudge had done a year or two before with her character Desert Rose. It is also one of the few pieces that I've done that has a digital background to it. Smudge reversed the background that she had used for her piece, and I created a mirror drawing of that was scanned it and then printed along with the background on to bristol board. Then I did my traditonal color pencil, marker, gouache, and micron pen on top.
Smudge had for her piece used digital canvas paper as a working surface; then she sprayed the surface with a clear coat and used acrylic paint on top. It was important that she put the clear coat on first because our printer does not use Dura-bite inks! One stroke from the wet brush and the fun would be over. I didn't have to quite so careful since the inks are relatively inert to the turpeniod, but I still had to watch out because I use water-based markers. The fun part was trying to recreate dress color to match Smudge's original color palette. Also to try and recreate the almost velvet-like finish she'd given it.

Awesome! Skunks and raccoons are two of my favorite species. I used to own a '67 pontiac GTO convertible, with the 400 c.i. engine and Ram Air. wish I still had that car. Now I drive a very un-cool Saturn VUE. XP
eh, it gets the job done when I need to haul some stuff, plus it's great in the snow and bad weather. My Harley is still righteous though.
