The way I was diagnosed with prostate cancer was through a blood test, something called the PNC level. My reading was WAAAAAAY above the top limit, I can't remember it but mine was 28.3.
After having two shots in my bum to kill testosterone production (cancer cells feed on that, y'see), having my prostate injected with something around 93 radioactive "seeds", and for a month being blasted externally with radiation, my level dropped to 2.8!
Not cancer-free yet but maybe after . . . 5 years, oy .
