This was a surprise present for my friend Skye. Its her most beloved and faithful mare, Mirage. I got the idea to do this after making the horse for
Red Heavy Armored War Horse And Sorcerer (http://www.furaffinity.net/view/9253302/) with its real horse hair tail. I thought it was something Skye would love, to have a mini-Mirage to keep with her when she isn't at home. After the number of times Skye has called Mirage a unicorn who lost her horn, I couldn't resist making this little horse a unicorn. It took a while to do...mostly waiting for Mirage to tangle up her tail enough for me to get enough hair for the piece. All the un-usable hair was wrapped in a piece of fabric that I used in place of the usual ball of tissue paper that makes up the bulk of the belly of one of my horse sculptures.
I also made an extra large cardboard gift box to go with. That was its own engineering project. I went way over board on the lid but its a good four times as large as my usual box lid so I had the extra space to have some real fun.
The figure is wire core with fabric skin. The hooves are tissue paper with super glue, the horn is wire, the necklace is beads on wire and the tail is real horse tail hair.
I am instituting a new rule when it comes to working with horse hair, after working on another, unrelated piece (which I will get posted one of these days) that I am only working with horse hair off of still living horses, no In-Memoriam pieces. So if you want me to make a figurine of your horse with their hair, I really prefer they still be alive at the time.
