This stage, oh man. It all starts in the room in the bottom and it gives you every weapon in the game, along with a ton of ammo. There is also a Soul Sphere that brings your HP and Armor to 200 each, and lastly there is an Invulnurability Sphere that lasts for a certain amount of time.
Now with all of that you'd think that maybe it makes the stage too easy, haha, yeah right. Those three rooms you see in the back section, well teleporting out from them are Pain Elementals which spit out Lost Souls, Cacodemons, Hell Knights, Arachnotrons (Spider Masterminds) and Mancubus. So, it's a LONG battle with all of this, but you better save your ammo and heatlh as once you kill the last of those demons the central section opens up to reveal the final boss...
The Demon Queen, she is tough. If you only use the BFG on her, you can expect to use 300-500 plasma ammo on her, but you still have to dogde her attacks, one will shoot three shots along the ground one in front of her and the other two at a 25 degree angle to the left and right of her, so if you are circle strafing odds are good you will get hit... Her second attack she shoots four homing rockets/fireballs at you, and yeah, they are hard to dodge...
BUT, you can make this level easier if you get the three Demon Artifacts throughout the game, each one it hidden in the three secret levels. When you have the Artifacts you can close the teleporter rooms preventing more demons from coming into the arena, thus making it easier to get to the Demon Queen easier.
Anyway, to me this has become a VERY iconic stage, and is a good example of the culmination of a game. This is a GREAT final level.

I love Doom64, still play it from time to time and this level still gives me a ton of trouble... been so many years and i think I only beat this one about three times now ^^' I'm good at PC Doom with a Keyboard i'm god, but with an N64 controller it gets tricky...
Especially if you somehow survive the pain elementals; The Demon Queens attacks of 4 homing rockets and the fast moving floor fires that throw you around kinda made me think she absorbed all the Revenants and Arch Viles, hence why they werent in the 64 version, hehe!

Well the pentragrams and upside down crosses are signs often used for demoic dedes and or hell.
And as Doom is all about the confrontation of hell and you, it probally makes sense that you get slaped much with such symboles.
Following the doom story line anyhow made me puzzle if its actual hell where this portals opend too, or just some kind of other alien race that is rather hyper agressive in nature. i guess it is unclear and will remain unclear, as the mastermind behind doom (Johne Romero) left ID for so long ago.
(In my thougths he was the creative heart of Doom and quake1, ever since he left ID never ever made as good games again).

I never played that particular level myself (I missed out on Doom 64), but in having played through almost every other form of Doom and its expansions on the hardest difficulties...I probably would have spent a few solid days on that one, cursing like a sailor. ^^
Gorgeous work, simply gorgeous. :3

Hopefully you can play the PC games some day. Those are unquestionably the best Doom games, especially considering the THOUSANDS of add-on levels and mods there are for Doom 2. Gives the game virtually unlimited replay. Heck, they even have an unofficial PC port of Doom 64 now -- Doom 64 EX -- which also has support for add-on levels. (Though you need to find a ROM of the original N64 game to play it.)
And this level was a good choice just for how small it is. Can't imagine how many weeks it'd take to remake one of the bigger D64 maps. XD
