LOL Here in the UK there always signs saying dont feed the ducks or pidgeons or fish or whatever. I think perhaps the local concils are scared people feed animuals the wrong thing (like its actually really bad to feed bread to ducks) regardless just cause the sign is there, everyone just kinda ignores the signs anyway and feeds ducks bread heheh

I've never seen signs here in the UK that say not to feed the ducks x3 Maybe up here in the rural wasteland that is "anything north of Aberdeen", the local councils don't really mind people feeding the ducks... But I feel bad knowing that I've fed all this bread to ducks in my childhood and that it's actually really bad. I'll have to go visit the ducks and feed them seeds by way of apology!

Yeah I know I feed bread to ducks all the time too I didnt know that in winter thats really bad for them.

Not feeding birds in a park is more due to health issues for people. Locally here in the US, one woman fed birds a few dozen loaves of bread until they gathered en masse. Eventually, the entire park was covered in bird poop. In the case of the woman, if I remember right, a few kids in a class trip got really sick due to it and the woman was put in jail n fined after she refused to stop feeding the birds. With all the birds there, it increases the risk of certain diseases and parasites (Giardia being a very widespread and nasty one (that almost killed my brother)..... and why many places are asked to boil their water for an extended period of time).

So basically its just science, the more food there is around, the more poop and the more babies there will be. Too much of a certain animal will harm the ecosystem and the upper end compensates by hunting & killing them... and when the prey is under control again, that is when you see wolf/fox/wild dog/large cat/bear issues when they come into town trying to find food.

Sorry for the extended post but it is because of the experience with these two reason many places ask you to not feed the animals.

From what I have heard, it is to prevent ducks (among other animals) relying on humans for food if they start to get most of what they eat handed to them.

A walk in the park, one of the most relaxing activities. I've been to a park in Torino, Italy and it's absolutely full of grey squirrels in the trees.
