An older picture (late 90's) from the first edition of the Jack Salem biography published in "Yarf." This particular illustration does not appear in the current version of the biography, "Monster," published by FurPlanet.
This shows Salem when he was around 21. His parents had kicked him out of the house shortly after he turned 18 because they were (understandably)afraid of him. He never really forgave them for that and returned several years later to kill both of them and his younger brother. Anticipating he might come back, his parents hired the ferocious insect-creature on the left to protect them. Here is the tense stand-off that ensued, where the creature can't attack as long as Jack has his little brother, and Jack can't kill or drop the child because that would leave him open to attack.
Done with pen and ink.
Ulterior motive for posting this-- selling off some original art on FurBuy, including this peice: http://www.furbuy.com/seller/RGibson.html

I always found the genetically engineered hellbeast to be really frightening. Really beautifully wrong design....all manner of stabby appendages. And to think that Jack's family is willing to have that thing around for protection says a lot about how much they fear Jack.
This is a nice surprise. Spent quite a bit of time visualizing that thing after reading Monster. (wasn't too fond of the pic that was still there)
I kept imagining a humorous visual clash of the cute little Wassname Salem and this thing being very close buddies, to the point where I doodled a pic of them both laughing at cartoons with Wassname on it's lap... a pic I'll have to redo since the thing doesn't look a whole lot like that.

Unfortunately I must note, Mr. Salem's relationship with his family is one of the few things which I dislike in him. To try kill his own parents and brother... that's the limit! And perhaps I'm lucky, because I don't have this part of story...
But from other side, it's proves he's a true evil and no one can avoid his revenge! And I still love him!
