With InWorldz announcing that they are beta testing mesh, I've decided to get cracking at creating mesh avatars. To start off, I'm working on a mesh Dralyx avatar in blender.
The current head uses about 6 mesh objects to replicate 18 sculpts. Those 18 sculpts would use up a total of 18432 vertex points, while this mesh head uses up only 5472 vertex points: less than 1/3rd the amount it would take done by sculpts.
NOTE: For 3D modellers unfamiliar with Second Life sculpts, each sculpt is a mesh created from a 32x32 bitmap, where each pixel's RGB value is mapped to an XYZ coordinate. All sculpts have 1024 vertex points, and every point must be in the correct order, or else you get a mangled mess.
