Because fictional science and making up laws to reality is what cool kids do.
At one point I did literally have 5 different mad scientist characters, even Spider started out as one at one point. Now I'm just left with Viktor Koch who is my background character that supplies mad science tools to the rest of my cast.
For me this type of character has always been fun, less for the psychotic, manic, god-challenging behavior (but that is fun nonetheless), but more for the stuff you can make with them. I've found it difficult to reason to myself why some characters would have ridiculous science rays, silly devices, or a large assortment of potions or syringes. Hence- mad science characters come into play.
BONUS: Give me ideas on what I can do to "furrize" this character, never been able to do it and just want to have something click for him.

If you wanted to fur-ize him, he needs to be a monster of some sort. He's a mad scientist, so if he ever had some kind of physical shortcoming, he probably SCIENCED it away. Gene modifications, bionic something-or-other, maybe just old-fashioned "fuck it I'll just sew this shit on" style.
