Meet schaapcitroen (sheeplemon), my Axolotl! :D I got him from my parents for my birthday :) He loves spacing around between the plants and running around on the aquarium floor :D
He's such a unique and cool critter! Or maybe it's a she, idk yet! I will be able to tell when he's sexually mature :)

I feed mine bloodworms ,but you can also feed them earthworms, pieces of heart/liver or special axolotl pellets. Bloodworms make a big mess though, I think I'll feed him earthworms once he's bigger! They can't be kept with other animals, because either they will nip at the axo, causing him stress, or he'll try to eat them! http://www.aqualandpetsplus.com/Amphib257.jpg He can choke in them actually as he's not good with spitting them out :P Same with pebbles, it's recommended you get either sand (which I have) or very big pebbles (like over 1 inch).
You should totally get one, they're awesome :D

Check out this website: http://www.axolotl.org/index.htm Very informative and it gives you tips and hints with starting out.
For as far as I know they stay in the water, even though they have both lungs and gills! They can drop the gills if they 'evolve' (lol it's like pokemon) but they only do that when you add a certain chemical to the water, or if it's extremely stressed. Without gills they live for only 1 - 2 years, with gills they can live up to 15! They're so extremely interesting :D
