An animatronic Deinonychus Slasher feasting on the carcass of another dinosaur, one of many dinosaurs featured in the temporary Dinosaur! exhibit at the Minnesota Zoo.
It's name means “wicked toe claw” because of its sickle-shaped claw that could slash prey.
Deinonychus had an unusually large sickle-shaped claw which aided them in their hunt for prey. Although small at 10-13 feet long and about 170 pounds, they were thought to be terrifying predators because of their pack behavior.
What They Ate: Carnivore (meat eater)
Where Fossils Have Been Found In North America: Montana, Oklahoma, and Wyoming
What They Did: An active and agile predator, Deinonychus had an extremely bird-like anatomy. Paleontologists believe they were covered in feathers.
How They Are Doing: Extinct. Lived in early Cretaceous Period, 115-108 million years ago.
