I was being a bit facetious with it, but in your reply on the part where you think I am meaning that Dems cannot defend themselves is very wrong. What is true however, is that the Dems have a much bigger perchance for wanting to take away that right for you to defend yourself. Not saying all, but if you look at the record, its there.
One of the few things I must aquise to is this: Many of my side are a part of Handgun Control Incorporated. I myself can't stand the non-gun related right wing tack the NRA has swung to. This has driven me as a straight person to the Pink Pistol organization.
I do admit that many Dems are "Gun Grabbers" I do not like it, and I think that there are many laws that should be challanged as against the second amendment, with California's law against .50 cals and the federal ban on street sweepers, (a drum fed semi-auto shotgun)
should be struck down.

Why do the 'gun-control' (gun-ban) proponents so afraid of a world like this?
This is a world that makes perfect sense; you respect locked doors or you risk getting shot. You don't snatch a lady's purse or you risk getting shot, you don't act like an asshole on the road or you risk getting shot. If you treat everyone with respect and basic human dignity, you won't get shot. That's a world that makes perfect sense.

In the most basic way to put it. Its not that they don't care you can be that polite society by being armed - the real reason is so you wont have the means to defend yourself against the Government if they decide to start gutting the Constitution. That of course smacks of some sort of conspiracy theory angle, but it does hold some water. They have already been testing it by slipping stuff clearly by that violates the Constitution, and they have not disarmed us all yet.
I think the problem starts when you start having 'career politicians.' Those people (and I use the word EXTREMELY loosely) start thinking that they need to 'protect' the government from the People (when capitalized, I refer to the People intended by the phrase 'We, the People' and in the way the phrase 'the People' is used in the US Constitution.), who they believe to be a chimeric blend of panicky sheep and violent terrorists wanting to destroy the very Freedoms they live under. So the politicians believe the best way to protect the government and the People is to eliminate any way the People have to show dissatisfaction with the status quo. Once the People are rendered helpless, then the politicians can rule as they see fit.

Hmm, that gives me an idea, a series of artwork all based on the phrase 'Freedom flows from the barrel of a gun.' Showing scenes of the American Revolution, the Allies in WWi and WWII, the Coalition forces in Desert Storm I, and finally, Free Americans standing peaceably with their firearms in front of the White House and the Congress Building.
As Thomas Jefferson himself said, "The people have the constitutional right to amend the Constitution, and should that fail, they have the revolutionary right to overthrow it."

and in the UK a couple where arrested for doing just this, they even wonded said burglars.
Before that, a couple of news reports of burglars being confronted and even killed, how ever the person who defended their family and proprty where charged with murder, and one man spent time in prison for it.

My answer to intruders is my M1911 45 Caliber hollow shooting pistol and if they get past that then they meet my fathers AR 223 and then my moms .38 Special if they can get out fast enough and that is also what i would say but also 'You have less than ten seconds to get out before i start shooting' comes to my mind.
