A female dakaltre. I dunno why she’s naked, maybe she’s an exhibitionist?
...Or maybe I’m too lazy to think about the fashions of yet another alien culture right this minute…
The profile is of a different individual, partly to show some of the color variation for this species.
Dakaltre rely mostly on their eyesight, which sees further into the ultraviolet range than a human, and also on the heat-sensing pits across the bridge of their nose. They hear with their tentacles, which are also extremely important for their body language since their faces aren’t very expressive.
Unlike most sapient species they’re almost entirely carnivorous, although, like crocodilians, they won’t pass up the occasional fruit.
They show very little sexual dimorphism, except that males are sometimes a bit bigger and tend to have more green pigment. There are plenty of green females too though, so if you need to know the gender of a dakaltre for some reason it’s best to just ask.
Females give birth to live young the same way some sharks do, with the eggs hatching internally. Although a lot of eggs are formed, only the first to hatch will survive by eating the rest. Partly due to that, the species has a higher baseline of aggression than most others.
To be honest, I don’t know a whole lot about these people yet. O.o They aren’t very important to the plot of my current story, so I haven’t had to think about them.
They’re a lot more humanoid than what I normally like, but it seems to work for them. And anyway, the humanoid tetrapod design just seems really practical for a sapient species, along with the therapod design(how come you don‘t see more therapod shaped aliens even though it’d have most of the same advantages as a humanoid build?). I think those would be the two most common body shapes for sapient ground-dwelling species from Earth-like planets…
