I feel like this had something to do with a fickle boyfriend who tended to think it was funny to threaten to wander off and see other "prettier" girls. He never actually did, but he was a mindfuck and liked to tell me he was going to in order to make me feel this way, even then the joke was on him, since most of the girls he had pretended to do this with later rejected him outright when he was finally single...
