"Khuvar peered down through the tree branches, golden eyes filled with excitement and worry. The others behind him hesitated, which seemed odd to the eagle that had been the most fearful. Taking a deep breath, Khuvar pushed off the branch, folded his wings, and dove down into the canyon. The air around him became gray and ominous, with no above and no below, though he knew he was still diving. When the fear threatened to paralyze him, he broke through the gray, and again there was an above and below. Above him the blue sky, around him the red rocks of the canyon, below him the blue snake that was the river growing larger and larger with every passing second..."
