Idea for a story I have. Would be a retelling of the plot of Pokemon Black and White, but with an interesting twist.
This is the Snivy of the main character "Van" (Player character; male). Van finds the Snivy in the wild one day while out relaxing and finds it is hostile towards him. He doesn't bother to pursue it. However, he later manages to save it from an angry Leavanny (whose baby Sewaddle Snivy had struck out of paranoia) by mediating the situation peacefully. This gains Snivy's respect and it follows him home, though it refuses to enter his house.
Snivy is intensely distrustful of humans aside from Van, claustrophobic, and hates being inside of buildings. These traits, combined with a nasty scar on its snout and intense eyes, has Pr. Juniper theorize Snivey had a previous owner who was abusive. However, since the Snivy would be unlikely be able to live in the wild and since Van had already earned its respect, she felt it should stay with him to be rehabilitated.
Van, while a bit apathetic, is a nice guy and won't force Snivy to do something it doesn't want to do, not forcing it to battle or even enter buildings it doesn't want to. He prefers to find methods of solving problems that don't involve violence, which is also beneficial to Snivy's condition.
Later, this Snivy gains the attention of "N". Despite the look Snivy has and the experiences it had obviously been through (like the pokemon N had interacted with as a kid), it still entrusts itself to a human. Van is also not a terribly anxious battler, actually refusing N's appeals to battle. Their interesting relationship throws N's views of both pokemon and people in question and sets off the main plot. When Team Plasma tries to kidnap Snivy, it suffers a serious relapse. This is what drives Van and Snivy both to want to stop Team Plasma, not mere altruism.
This idea would give a retelling of Pokemon Black and White a more solid plot, generating a better source of interest for N and a better reason for the hero to want to stop Team Plasma.
