I think it was just that his ego was hurt when he got 'tricked' and didn't figure out that the Mink was a 'fake'. So he never thought of her again till now where he remembers "Ohh right. There was this device. She might be fake." - As you see it here. But the Mink also knew that she wouldn't trick him for that long and that this device was rather an item to buy some time. I hope for her that she figured out something allready. Otherwise she is in deep deep trouble.
