This is the faerie garden I made today - my first attempt at actually doing anything like this, but I'm trying to make my bare patio into something a bit more....well, ME. lol Needs more plants, needs some windchimes, needs a hummingbird feeder, and of course, it needs to be welcoming to the fae folk. ^.^
I don't have much yet, just a few potted plants, but I plan to get a couple plants here and there when I can afford it and slowly but surely make it into what I want it to be. This particular project started with a Clematis vine I bought the other day, which needed a bigger pot, which meant I had more space to fill....which led to this. :3
I can't remember what the little purple flowers are, and I've got some grape hyacinth bulbs I pulled from my mom's neighbor's yard planted in the back, though they're done growing for the year so I won't see them for a while. The mushroom is ceramic, the gazing ball is glass, and the gravel came from my old fishtank. There is also a quartz crystal hanging from the top part of the vine. The little bench came from Hobby Lobby.
I definately want to do more like this, maybe with different themes.

How very charming. While shopping at a local K Mart, I spied a "Toy" which featured a "Fairy" in a glass mason jar. Tapping on the lid of the jar causes the "Fairy" to flit frantically about inside her glass "Prison." It is a cute idea, but I'd feel kind of guilty trapping the little creature like that. There was also another version with a glowing "Firefly" in it which I liked better. The tiny bench, the "Gazing Ball" and the suspended Crystal are a nice touch.
I had no idea faerie gardens existed untilll I saw this picture. Have you had any weird experiences yet? How do you know if they like it or not? Maybe a future project for myself! I wish I lived on an upper floor like you do, I just have a janky little patio. :/ Not a good place for a pretty fae oasis, I don't think.
Oh yeah, people have been doing this for a looooong time, way before I decided to try it. There's some links up there in the description to some belonging to other people that I thought were really nice. And no wierd experiences yet, but faeries only make their presence known if they want to.
I'm glad I have an upper floor as well, because the lower floor patios here aren't enclosed in any way. I would be too worried about theft and probably wouldn't put anything out if I lived downstairs.
