OPEN THE DAMN GATE!!!
Alternate titles for this picture are, "I don't care about the damn quarter!" and "If you don't open this gate soon I'm going to do something painful with that stick you found!"
This is yet another piece of Alan Wake fanart. What can I say, the idea of a creative person being captured and having their creativity used for evil purposes, alongside the whole 1990's miniseries look of the whole thing and the themes of love and redemption and friendship playing through it all just really grip me.
There's a scene in a game where you escape from being kidnapped by a doctor who is hoping to ride on your coattails by 'helping' you make a new book and he goes so far as to lock your agent, Barry, in a closet. You pull Barry out and in the escape you get separated as you run through a hedge maze. Near the end of the maze you reunite with Barry who is on the other side of the gate and fumbling to find the key. His commentary goes like, "I found it.. wait, no, that's a stick." and "Oooh, I found a quarter!" Meanwhile you're fighting off waves of shadow creatures, some of which have friggin CHAINSAWS... so you can imagine the impatience one would have over Barry not finding the key.
I'm happy at how the lighting effects came out. Since the monsters are made of shadow you can hold them at bay with flares and a flashlight. Gen's gripping the former (which only last a few seconds... cheap-ass flares) and screaming bloody murder at Barry.
Copic marker and gelpen on 4x6 watercolor board.
