Negative, gate was loooooong gone. The entire area was completely overgrown, I doubt I could have gotten my 4x4 there due to the sheet number of bushes and trees and shit growing.

It is interesting, but I don't think this would be part of a gate. Gates tend to need swinging motion which that post doesn't allow for. It looks more like the end of the fence. Those bolts are at the right height for tying off wire fencing to keep sheep in.

Aye, it looks that way, but the wall starts up again about six feet away. I was wondering if maybe it was a gate that went up, but that would need another post opposite it...no sign of it though.

Posts can be removed and gates don't tend to lift. They tend to swing. Unless this was the opening end and the latch was something simple like a piece of rope which would be common. It extends in both directions? Interesting because this is going to be an end due to the brace post to the ground. Any way, it's a very interesting fence.

I've seen all sorts of weird stuff like this out in the Mojave Desert; mostly near Amboy Crater.

Well if you're ever out there, remember that the heat (though still a major concern) is not the main hazard of the desert --- it's the sun, and dryness.

Make sure to keep your skin covered. A broad-rim hat (my Boonie Hat is a good example), pants instead of shorts, and a long-sleeve shirt work well.

As for the dryness, bring lots and lots of water. Even if you have other beverages, still bring WATER! Deserts are not necessarily hot, but they are characterized from all other environments by having more evaporation than precipitation.

As for the heat, don't stray far from a building or reliable car with A/C during the daytime during the hotter days of the year. That may not be good "survival" advice, but you don't want to play chicken with the elements in Mojave Desert --- it's a game you won't win.
