Alright, I'll give it to you guys. Usually the predictions I see in the comment bar for this comic are WAAAAAAY off the mark, but a bunch of you called this one. Not that it was particularly hard :P
What. . . a dashing, debonair, prone-to-slumming seadog enters the story then DOESN'T show up again, coincidentally?
Now that would just be misleading. And I would NEVER do that to you guys.
. . . at least not in this case.
The handsome white wolf there is
WanderingPariah, the winner of our character insert auction way back in the day. He makes an appearance for several pages hence, and will actually play even more of a role in future volumes. Stay tuned :)

"Did Dhaval moonwalk into the admiral backwards while doing a Michael Jackson crotch grab?"... and started singing "Billie Jean" and dancing, then joined in the dance by Luther, Cuthbert, the Admiral and his fellows, and more characters of Red Lantern from each corner of the dock, then the whole group made a MJ's music video show.
Man, I just can't get this scene out of my head. Now I'm so hoping someone would draw it out or even make an animation of it. That would be hilariously funny!

Sometimes, but not always. This comic has, on average, 10-20 fully detailed and separate facial shots on each page, which comes out to somewhere between 1,000 and 2,000 separate shots over the course of the first volume alone. Unfortunately at that volume, it's hard to get every single one perfect, or even close. This page was also completed eight months ago, so. . . I can't really tell you what I was thinking when I drew it :P Eight months is a huge amount of time for me artistically.
In short, it is what it is. I'm always improving, but the character work has the defect of sheer volume, as opposed to the backgrounds, which can have a lot more care and time taken for them. I do the best I can while still getting it done on deadline.

I hope you won't think I was criticizing in a negative way or suggesting you should change it, just a personal observation. your work is lovely. :)
Do you find having a stock of expression and pose shots helps? Obviously dynamic and fresh poses are important to avoid talking heads, but would it make it easier at times? Its been a long time since I did comics.

I'm a bit afraid that using any kind of stock expressions would lead to copy/paste heads, and I try to avoid that at all costs. In my personal opinion (and it's just that, an opinion) it's worth a few mistakes if you experiment constantly with your expression work. Some people will like it, some won't. It's the nature of the beast. Toony, overblown expressions are some people's cup of tea, but they give me a headache. Some people like hyper-realistic. I prefer to be somewhere between the two. . . which can be a bit subtle, and prone to misinterpretation. Especially with big cats, man. The curve of their mouthline has a tendency to 'smile' too much, and from the side, can look very jowelly.
I understand what you mean. I think the best works are works in progress. It would be awful to have nothing left to learn or improve.
I find the opposite with cats, I find the length of the jaw line is just a little too short for a long expression line in the mouth, but too long for a short one. Perhaps it's a matter of how realistic you want to go, even without going toony artists take many liberties in adapting a mixed skeletal and muscular structure, and depending on the angle it does change.

I've always thought that sometimes it looked like trying to stay true to the anatomy of the animal made some of your expressions a little hard to read. After all, this is all a bit of alchemy isn't it? To put human expressions on the face of an animal with an entirely different facial structure? I pretty much just always wrote this off as a choice rather than an inability--i.e. that you chose to stay a little closer to realism. Anyone who's been watching you for a while could figure out that cartoony exaggeration is just at odds with your style.
Hey, half the fun of a comic posted one page at a time each week is to think of what happens next, even if you know there will be mutant activity =)
I can normally make a pretty good guess most of the time, but my Marvel comic nerdiness takes the best of me more often than not, heh heh.

Hey hey! Check it out! Thank you again for the opportunity to participate in this comic that you two have put so much time and energy into. Really is wonderful!
Pretty crazy to see Kayin chillin' and interacting in the world. #thuglife
Looking forward to the next few pieces.
Cheers!

Oh my! it really is you! so this is where you've gone to :D
If you come back, take some background with you for me, will ya?
Though I kinda miss a pannel with your nice long hair flowing... have I mentioned I love male characters with long hair?
looking forward to the next pages :D

Aww, I usually look forward to people making crazy guesses and then being wrong when something even crazier happens. But really, I want to see Luther kick some more tail, anyway. XP
I feel like the coloring on this page is really, really beautiful. Just, the selection of colors, and the lighting of the scene. Of course, I am also a sucker for darker scenes, so....
