This is the pointer that once read out where the cage was.
On this engine they are driven off of bevel gears on the end of the winding drum shaft. These 45° bevel gears then drive a worn shaft which moves the pointer.
On the left side to see a pawl that was once spring loaded. I'm not sure what function this part served.
Both pointers on this winding engine are at the bottom, so I suspect the mining cages still exist, just as the bottom of the filled in mine shaft.
