“I am no saint,” the warrior mutters, the fog of war floating around him. Bodies of friend and foe alike litter the ground. Battered and bruised, the tiger stands. His shield lost amongst his fallen comrades. His grip tight around the hilt of his notched sword. The Templar looks up into the overcast sky, black grime caking his tunic and face. Blood splatters color the virgin-white of his clothes. His own blood stains the chain links of his armor.
All sound fades from his ears as he summons the last of his strength. “I may be no saint for the sins I committed but God releases the chains from those who fight with a pure and repentant heart. My hope is in God!”
Step after step, slowly at first, he moves towards the approaching horde. He doesn’t hear their war cries. He doesn’t hear metal striking metal as his sword swings. The warrior begins one final effort against the enemy as he runs.
The vision of his daughter fills his mind, her innocent smile and gleeful giggles, the sparkling eyes of the dancing girl, all steel his determination. She is the reason he does not falter. She is why he continues. She is the last vestige of his sanity. Without her, he would’ve been lost long ago, heartbroken and swallowed by the overpowering feelings of depression, regret, and anger.
Body after body falls before him. He advances, the darts of the enemy no longer stinging him as they strike. Their barbs find no hold on him as they once did. As if time itself slows, he becomes the destroyer of his enemy, every move taking an eternity.
“MY HOPE IS IN GOD!” he cries as he breaks through the lines. The warrior heart thumps loudly within the soldier.
The world fades to black as the feline crashes through the last of the soldiers, leaving only the leader to fight.
Victory or defeat? That part of the story has yet to be told.

I have listened to this over and over in an attempt to come up with the proper words to accompany this piece.
Those of you who have known me during much of the the past 4 years know my life has been a roller coaster of emotional turmoil and stress. The callous attitude the ex-wife showed towards the vows she made before God... The constant reminder by her, not by direct words, that she never had to worry about being alone since she was already dating another before informing me she wanted a divorce... The whole 'I can't be married to my best friend' line... All the feelings of a ruined and wasted ten years...

I have followed this musician from my earliest days on FA. Followed him to SheezyArt. Waited for his return during an absence. Lamented when he nuked his gallery and when his computer crashed taking many of those songs to the cyber-grave. And I consider him a good friend.
Thank you so much for sharing a part of your world with me, my brother. Yet I fear there are no words worthy enough to befit this piece or to communicate the emotions this evokes in me.
