Ianthisia takes Azurea to a quirky dragon to see if she has any musical talent.

The inner sanctum of the hive of the Cloud Court was always far larger than the outskirts of the family towers. White marble was always illuminated with firelight and made the walls appear yellow and gold. Bridges lead everywhere as blue and purple dragons flew gracefully like swarming bees.
Ianthisia carried two hatchlings in her mane as she landed on one of many platforms in the segmented inner city. A sky blue hatchling, Azurea peered out of the mane before crawling down from it and slipped under her mother's chest. The second hatchling, a lavendar-blue hatchling with bright purple scales and a dark purple mane followed her little sister's path. First rule of traveling to the inner city, keep under mother or close to mother and one won't get trampled.
Azurea nudged her sister slightly as Ianthisia scanned the complexes on the level they stood upon, dorrway upon arched door frame leading to more bridges, rooms and caverns.
“Azurea, stop iiit!” her sister fretted and nudged her back.
“Amethysia, you are the elder sister, you protect your younger sister,” Ianthisia stated as her head arched down to look at both hatchlings. “Do not let her push your buttons THIS early in the morning...or would you like to be late to your magick studies?”
“No mah,” Amethysia replied in a little pout as Azurea spat her tongue at her sister. Iathisia's long tail suddenly whipped under her own body and swatted Azurea on her rump. Azurea made a little whimpering noise and hunkered down a bit, looking up at her mother innocently.
“Azurea, do no be a pest.”
“Yes, mah...”
Ianthisia snorted at both little ones to make sure they got the message, before arching her neck back up and beginning an easy pace along the marble ledge, passing marked doors and archways. The hatchlings under her trotted to keep the long legged pace, wings tight and tails straight as not to push each other and not to run into mother's legs.
Torches whisked by as they moved along, this part of the sanctum rather still and vacant. Even the usual sounds of roaring or conversation were lost down here. Amethysia's head lowered slightly as Azurea counted torches going by to see how deep they were going.
A radiant sound hummed on the calm air, Azurea's ears perking forward as her sister's head raised. They came to a large set of wooden doors, gold leaf appearing in stripes and odd pictographs covered its surface. Ianthisia narrowed her eyes a bit as Azurea approached the gold language, little fat egg shapes with lines sticking up from them in different fashions. One even looked to be hollow, Azurea making a little “O” shape with her mouth to match it.
The tones of sound were coming from behind the doors, Azurea was sure when she leaned in closer, before her mother's hard knocking slammed in Azurea's large ears.
Knock. Knock. Knock.
The tones stopped and the three of them waited for the sound of an approaching dragon.
And waited...were they pretending they were absent?
Ianthisia growled in her throat, before knocking again harder this time.
The doors opened slowly into a well lit room, large pillows along the floor in a curved fashion and a wooden device as long as a dragon's wing on a large platform. Silk hung around the ceiling in large sweeping yards, reds, yellows and purples to give the room a far more welcoming look.
Ianthisia and the hatchlings didn't see a dragon though...but Azurea had trotted out from the safety of her mother's underbelly and went STRAIGHT for the wooden device.
Suddenly a large dragon's head appeared in front of Azurea's trek, yellow whiskers wiggling abnormally around a large red-scaled face.
“BAH~!” it said to scare her, which it did quite well. Azurea jumped back and ran, cowering under her mother and under her sister's wing.
“HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH~!” the red-head, lined with yellow-gold fur laughed heartily, slinking down from the ceiling like a snake. It was long, short-legged and far more mane and fur than anything the hatchlings had seen. It was also red and orange, violently so, scales glimmering in the torches light. He cackled, his whiskers shuddering with each shuddering laugh, horns—no not horn but deer-like antlers stuck out behind his head. Azurea blanched as the creature had NO WINGS...what was this thing? Was it a dragon?
“Excuse me,” Ianthisia stated with some impatience. “I believe we had an appointment.”
“OhhhHAHA~!” he laughed, “Haahhaa...Y-y-you must be Ianthisia? Haha...Oohohohohoh...”
“I am,” Ianthisia stated in a growling tone.
“Oh, forgive me. I have to introduce myself!” he stated in a boisterous voice, before coiling and uncoiling rapidly, landing in a sort of side pose with his head regally up. “I am Fulgidus the stunning, go ahead and be stunned. Everyone always needs a few moments to take me in.”
“Really, I don't have time for eastern foolishness,” Ianthisia stated bluntly, before grabbing Azurea and pulling her out from her under carriage. She dangled Azurea from her tail. “This one is Azurea. She needs musical guidance and I have been informed you are the musical performer to the King and Queen.”
He still held his pose as he slowly twisted his head round to look at Azurea and Ianthisia.
“That I am,” he stated in a slow and silky manner.
“Then you will take her on as a pupil,” Ianthisia stated in a confused tone of voice. Fulgidus's lips made a sort of thinking pout, his eyebrow raising before he looked down at Azurea...
“We shall see if you can sing,” Fulgidus replied with his eyebrows drawing forward menacingly. Ianthisia rolled her eyes before setting Azurea down on the flat marble surface.
“I will return for her in a few hours, at the moment my other hatchling and I are running late for her studies,” Ianthisia stated before turning to leave the large chamber. Amethysia followed under her mother but kept her eyes on her cowering little sister, pouting as they left. Fulgidus leaned back on his short back legs, long body far taller than any other dragon Azurea had seen and flicked one paw. The wooden doors slammed shut, making Azurea jump a little.
He crossed his short front arms and his whiskers stood on end, before a quirky smile appeared on his muzzle.
“Well, now that she's GONE,” Fulgidus bellowed with paws wide open. “Come! You seemed interested in my dragon dulcimer.”
With a snake like curve through the air he shimmered behind the wooden device atop the platform. He beckoned with his paw for her to come forward, a larger smile on his face.
Azurea's head rose first, before her legs stood up and she somewhat trotted up to the large lizard, sitting in front of the platform and head arching up to look at its flat surface...but its surface was far from flat.
Strings lined the top of it, tightly pulled by strange pieces of silver. The shape of the wooden device was triangular...mostly and below the strings were eloquently carved divots and holes. Fulgidus tilted the great instrument up for Azurea to see the carvings were very specific...they formed a large coiling dragon much like the red on before her!
“The dragon dulcimer,” he stated as he laid it back down in front of him and plucked a string. It rung with a high, milky tone, the walls and fabric holding the note around them for a long time. “It is an ancient musical instrument passed down from my father's father's father...all the way down to me. Now, little—cloud dragoness, your name again?”
Azurea hid a little more, before blinking and squeaking out,
“Azurea.”
“Ah yes, on account of your azure coloring,” he stated before motioning for her to scoot onto a pillow displayed around. Azurea looked over before quickly taking one of the large cushy things, her ears forward and eyes attentive. “Now, little hatchling. I will play something for you, and if you feel like singing then by all means join in, or enjoy the wonderful music of Fulgidus the stunning, whichever you feel like.”
Azurea's head tilted slightly as a gentle claw strum another string on the dragon dulcimer, before all his front claws began plucking them. It was a wonder to watch, and listen as the tones and harmonies radiated through the wooden chamber and out into the room. It sounded far more like droplets of music than anything Azurea had heard before, each pluck held a sharp beginning tone and drifted into gentle silence. Her eyes closed slowly as if lost in a trance like state and Fulgidus' eyes focused on the little hatchling. He sped up the tempo and saw the shift suddenly, the air had changed in the room as Azurea's muzzle fell lower in concentration.
A little note grew from her muzzle, before her head raised high in the air, the song from her throat echoing the melodies from the speedy hands of the eastern dragon. Fulgidus let out a loud cackle of excitement before his tail thumped the platform to give a loud beat, the music from the dragon dulcimer spiking with the magical tones coming from Azurea.
“Stand up! Take in bigger breaths!” Fulgidus stated loudly as he kept beat. Azurea stood as commanded and started to bob with the hollow beating of his tail and the wondrous strums of his music.
The melodies went on with wild changes and up-beat tones for a long few minutes, before Fulgidus died the strums down to a slow, gentle last notes. Azurea let out a little last note, before her eyes opened and the feeling in the room shifted to be empty once more.
Fulgidus clapped his hands once in excitement, before nodding to the small hatchling.
“Little one, you will be my pupil,” he stated officially. “We'll have to find you something to play though...perhaps after a little more vocal coaching I'll have thought of something...what do you say? Hm? Fulgidus the stunning and Azurea the nightingale?”
Azurea looked shyly but her song told Fulgidus all he needed to know.
“You, Azurea have a blaze inside you, no more shy looks, you are welcome to speak what ever comes to mind here. Now,” Fulgidus got back into position over his dulcimer. “From the top, stand up straight and make sure your head is arched just ever slightly back to breathe easily. And...”
All mine.

Indeed it can it is a little thing called ego centrism. All races at one time or another felt they were the most important and that they were the center of all things. Some more than others. A very said state of affairs if you ask me. It has been the root cause of most wars and crimes against others. In still takes place in many countries today.
Love this story so much. You know children well judging from how you portray Azurea and her sister Amathysia. It is so like to bickering siblings. Love how mamma handles it! I love how you worked Fulgidus in and gave him such an awesome part. An artisan of music how awesome. Love all the descriptiveness you work in and the details you put in as well so we the viewer can see it in our minds. Awesome stuff angel! Very awesome Storyline as well. I love the dragons!
