He stood the fill his glass once again. Eric finally decided to remove his black tie as he poured more whiskey over the present his friend had given him. Memories of Aaron flashed through his mind as he placed the bottle on the counter, grabbed his glass and walked back to his couch with a slight wobble. He had been drinking since he got back from the funeral. The large bottle of jack which had once been full is now less than half. The bottle was going to celebrate Aaron’s 21st birthday that was soon coming up. Now he was using it to drink away any sorrow he had about losing his friend. Apparently, he hadn’t had enough because the memories of the incident flashed through his mind.
Aaron died in a car accident a little less than a week ago on his way back from classes. He was almost home and was T-Boned on the driver side by a car speeding through a red light. The driver of the other car was fine he only had a few scrapes and bruises, but Aaron had to be rushed to the hospital and was pronounced dead shortly after arriving. Eric was the last to know about the accident. Aaron’s little sister called him the next day and told him what had happened.
Eric noticed that his glass was empty again but he did not get up. He stared at the small square stones he was using to cool his drink instead of ice. He remembered when Aaron gave them to him. It was for his birthday last month. He had finally turned 21 and Aaron gave him the whiskey stones to be used with the bottle of Jack his mother had given him. Eric decided to save the Jack and the stones for Aaron’s birthday for them to drink together. But now that can’t happen. Now he can’t have a drink with his best friend.
He stood to fill his glass once again.
