I heard rumors about the Layton/Wright crossover... here: http://www.gamesradar.com/tgs-2011-.....outside-japan/
*KEEPING FINGERS TIGHTLY CROSSED* God I hope it makes it over, I'll die if it doesn't. Or fly to Japan with some burly men and start punching execs. Something like that. sobs
And yeah, I'm trying to pace myself to 1-2 hours a day so I can stretch the game out, otherwise I'll be done in 2 days :(

Well, I heard they didn't bring over the 2nd Edgeworth game because the first one didn't do so hot, and I pulled some sales figs on google for the AA series and it ... didn't actually sell as well as I thought it did. It did decently, not BAD, but it's no HALO :( Which makes me kinda sad (even though I'm Team Layton, haha). So they were probably waffling on whether to spend the money to localize, but I honestly think it would be a MISTAKE not to. It WILL SELL, and if anything, make the two properties even MORE popular <3
Well fuck Halo! D8< The thing is, corporate asses in business here in the US believe that 'we the people' are dumb as shit...and that we can't HANDLE SMART GAMES. In most cases, I kind of agree with them...but they don't spend nearly enough money marketing the game to begin with and letting people know it FUCKING EXISTS. The new Layton game was an improvement. I don't have TV, but I watch Hulu and I saw some ads running on there for it. The game before it I really had to stay on top of to know when it was coming out. The Edgeworth game? I didn't even know it fucking existed until someone told me about it! Honestly though, the Edgeworth game was OK in my opinion...I still haven't finished it yet because I kinda lost interest. :( But on the topic of smart games, there's anything Valve produces - A+ fun games, like Half Life, Portal, Team Fortress...that combine elements that the general gaming public is used to (first person shooters mainly) with something that makes you think...like Portal. The Portal series has done SO WELL and it takes a bit of thinking to get through it. Proving we're not as dumb as those corporate assholes think we are.
Did you by chance play Ghost Trick? I was at Comic Con when they were running demos and I met the dudes that made it and Phoenix Write. They're just two cute little Japanese men who seem to just enjoy making fun games. So different from the people who make games here in the US whose formulaic mottos are always "WE'RE GUNNA MAKE A GAME THAT'S LIKE "insert game title here" AND "insert another game title here" COMBINED. WE'LL CALL IT "random name here". IT'S GOING TO BE SO EXTREME IT WILL BLOW YOUR MIIIINNNNDDD" And then the game flops.
and everyone's like "walp....NEXT."
Aug, sorry to go off on a rant here. I just get so pissed with shit like this. I JUST WANT TO GIVE THEM MY MONEY FOR A GAME SERIES I LOVE.

Oh no, I totally get what you mean! And I thought Unwound Future had a pretty decent marketing effort, at least in some parts? They had a REALLY amazingly adorable TV commercial, did you ever see it? :D It's charming as ever. But I hear ya on "quieter" games getting less attention :(
And less marketing dollars :( Unfortunately for companies, the dollar is still the driving force behind what to release and what not to, and so especially over here some companies aren't ready to take risks on AMAZING series simply because seemingly all Americans want is the next big FPS. Which sadly, is true for a great degree of the populace. I think part of the problem is poor marketing and not giving us the chance to play something new and different and smart, and part of it is entirely the "fault" of the gaming population -- they don't want to play anything other than FPS and other styles of games.
Uuugghhh I want to write more but I'm late for work :(

They should really take note from some of these awesome indie games...like Super Meat Boy. McMillen is some sort of genius when it comes to fun games and awesome level concepts. He just continuously spews out great new games with everything he makes! And see, they had little to no marketing and now they're world famous!
But I can understand the fact that not everyone and every company is capable of making hit games...Although Blizzard is doing a pretty good job at it. >_> But you're right - the general pop loves 'MANLY' games. I hear Japan has a much much higher rate of female game players, which grants a lot of options for alternative games to make more money....but ya know how it is here. Games are dominated by boys. XP FORTUNATELY female gamers are on the rise and are gradually starting to get some attention.

haha, I know, right? She's pretty flawless....almost too flawless. Layton is all "I must ask you stay out of harm's way" Emmy, "Alright, professor. *GASP* THERE GOES THE CRIMINAL *karate chop action, runs after them*"
Have you seen The Eternal Diva? That's where I first saw her.
