Apologies for the OT upload, it's going straight to scraps.
Here's my problem: Photoshop likes to make my lines wobble. For a long time I thought it was just me, or how tablets are - but after a little doodle in SAI, it's very clear that the problem is the software!
Anyone have an idea on how to fix this irksome tendency?
Original PS image was running 300 DPI, smoothing on, opacity control by pen pressure, 1% spacing. I suspect the latter might be my problem, but if I turn it off and draw fast, I get a bunch of strung out dots :/
I'm not against learning to start pictures in SAI if I have to, I'm just rather fond of PS for its colouring and stuff and would be happy to stick with it if this one can be resolved...

SAI has a choice of raster or vector layers - so far I've only used the latter, to outline over my sketches, then take that back into PS. The doodle above was on a raster layer though... As far as I can tell, something silly in PS seems to be trying to nudge lines towards horizontal/vertical/45-degrees, and thus producing weird stepping effects :S
What tablet are you using? What version of PS are you using? I have a wacom 3 and CS5 and I have no problems with wobble whatsoever. I remember with my old graphire I had the same problem, but it was fixed by a much more sensitive tablet and got even better as the versions of PS went on.
Sai is a painting program specifically designed to suit the needs of the digital artist. Though Photoshop is also used for this purpose, it's main design was intended for photo-editing.
Because SAI is developed for artists, it's made to automatically smooth lines as you draw. Photoshop will have this problem when drawing large-scale, and the best way to avoid it is to use the line-tool, or use the brush (but up closer.)
It also can be your tablet. Some tablets have less sensitivity than others.
There's really no wrong or right answer which program you choose, it just depends which one you become more comfortable with.

In fairness, you're quite right - but it does seem very disappointing that the industry standard premium graphics product can't draw a smooth line! I know I'm not the only person on the interweb with it, but all research turns up is unsolved problems, and the odd story of tech support saying it's because PS is so exquisitely sensitive and that the wobble is a feature, not a bug! Great, thanks Adobe for making me look like a cheap hack :/
Tablet is an Intuos 4 Large, and I guard it with my life! xD Prior to that I had a genius F610, which wasn't nearly as good on pressure, and had all the same wobble - but I blamed the tablet at that time.
I'll probably try to move to sketching with SAI - I use it for vector outlining already, I'm just used to sketching with photoshop because it's so easy to set a colour mask on the sketch layers (when dealing with multiple characters, I find it very helpful to have them on separate layers to avoid noticing too late that one is taller than they should be). I can of course just do a solid colour layer in SAI and clip it to the sketch layer, which will produce exactly the same effect :)
Alternatively I could try to like GIMP...
