Ancient Fucking History
OMG, stumbled across this photo by pure accident. This photo was taken at San Diego Comic Con in 1986. Thats a VERY young Peter Laird of Ninja Turtles fame, Stan Sakai of Usagi Yojimbo fame and yours truly promoting the then brand new Equine the Uncivilized #2. Back then all the indie publishers and artists hung together and battled against the 'Big Two'.
Both Stan and I are wearing 'God Save the King' t-shirts, there was a heavy effort to get Marvel Comics to return Jack Kirby's art he had drawn.
So Young....half a lifetime ago for all three.

So far I've gotten to meet Peter (and get him to sign my childhood copy of the TMNT omnibus), and I've seen Mr. Sakai at AC many times but never had the chance to approach him.
It's a big fandom now and getting to meet the "legends" of the old-school is getting harder and harder.

Heh...that does take me back a few years memory-wise.
Last thing I heard, Stan Sakai is showing his 'Yojimbo artwork at the Japanese/American Museum in Los Angeles.
Anyway, that was when SDCC used to be (More or less) fun to go to. I haven't gone to that in many moons-and I don't think I can afford to go back there again. :|
