When Leonard told him that he should be God of Hell instead of him, Nermal really didn't want to, but he knew his brother was in a tough situation, and even though this wasn't the only way out of it, it was the quickest and easiest way. And so he became the fourth god of Hell.
He never had a relationship with anyone before, however when he found Kno's egg and the corpse of her bio father, he knew he could have some sort of relationship with her after she hatched in a way that Leonard or any of his children couldn't.
So, he adopted her.
