Here's an even closer-up shot of the insect seen in the original Way of the Dragon(fly) photo. This isn't just a crop of that; it's taken from a different photo, albeit snapped only a few seconds later. I find the detail on the dragonfly's eyes particularly fascinating.

For an old camera (getting on for four years old now, and it's been worked pretty hard) that A710 is still pretty nice to use. It was one of the last of the "proper" Canon A-series models before Canon stopped offering manual controls, and to be honest there still isn't much around that offers the same combination of features in the same size body. (No, this isn't an advert: I'm keeping mine! =:P )
Not old in years, but it has been very heavily used -- well over 10,000 shots in that time, probably closer to 15,000 by now. As for my hand... actually, no -- I was holding it over my head one-handed for this! I took about 20 shots, and this was the best one. Canon's image stabilisation is a life-saver sometimes!
