Time always seemed to twist warnings of true danger into tantalizing myths. A creature living beneath the city was one as old as time. Sometimes lizards with giant fangs that eat children whole, swarms of rats that pick bones clean leaving no trace, or the cultists that hide from the light of day making sure they aren't found. It's these times that the saying 'curiosity killed the cat' became far more too real.

A trip through the muck and putrid scents would ward most off but further along past the horrific flows it seemed to clear up to something more tolerable. The underground opened up to a broken facility long since abandoned in fires letting light in from an overcast sky. Eyes adjusting barely had enough time to notice the space had become claimed by something else.

There was a bare moment that it seemed like it didn't notice. The pink eyes were so hazy there wasn't a way to tell where it was looking even if it could see at all. And yet. Adrenaline struck like lightning. Heart pounding in the silence felt like it would echo even while staying frozen still. Instinct raged as the intelligent mind living such a sheltered life turned it into freezing confusion. Feet glued to the floor even while everything screamed RUN.
