The Arceli were created by Sylam the Deity of the Wild. Sylam, when ze takes on a form, takes on the form of an Arceli.
As a result, they love wildernesses more than any other of the Twelve. Generally they are not comfortable in cities, but do well in small towns and villages. This is not a matter of greenery (cities on Rani have a lot of parks and other greenery) but of the innate urbanity of a city. They tend to travel by mobile homes akin to yurts or, sometimes, in covered wagons.
Aldin the Explorer was one, and he was the one who discovered the continent of Aldania. For this reason, many Arceli have been attracted to it, though they do not live there exclusively and can be found all over Rani.
They tend to be avuncular rather than aggressive and would generally much rather share what they have with fellow-travelers than fight.
Their fur color tends towards that of Earth bears, but with a much wider variety of colors and markings. There are magics that also allow the permanent tinting of their fur and some love to make themselves stand out.
All members of their species have antlers which fall off towards winter and regrow in the spring. They find all sorts of uses for these discarded antlers and scrimshawing is an ability most learn. On occasion their antlers will turn out more like branches and grow leaves, flowers, and berries. They see this as a mark of Sylam's favor. The berries are edible and made into a special jam that's eaten once a year to celebrate the day they were created. It is unusual, but not unheard of, for the same individual to have this happen for multiple years in a row, with the record being Kyara the Blooming who had it happen for 50 years.
