I think it's just that sometimes the sketches or inks, which rely more on the viewer's imagination to fill in the details, can just wind up mentally hitting harder than the actual full coloured rendition. Plus, people can fill in their own expectations for the palette of an OC, if that's important to them or if they didn't like the artist (or commissioner's) selections.

i like both wip and finshed stages of art, just algos kinda bury the finished works sometimes or on fa for ex. i watch so many artists it will also get buried if don't see it right away after being posted

Usually that happens if the art took too long to finish from the preview, or, the preview received more hype because how excited the artist was but when it was finished the artist isn't as hyped from before because they're now too pooped out from the worked needed to finish it

Yeah it feels like that a lot...i see it all on socials all the time, unfinished sketches get 10 times the amount of attention. Meanwhile I only ever post finished pieces...still get the same result of the end there anyway of no traction. :')

Ill post or ask something in a otherwise very active server channel about something im doing for like art help. and literally get 0 answers or get 1-2 that miss the question completely the next day.

That's why you don't post wips before the final piece.

others already gave good pointers of how that may happen, but this happened to myself (as in, I was the audience there, not the artist) for some artists when their linework, even the coloring, is lovely, but the shading is not good with no consistent light source, some parts way too dark, others way too bright..
I had commissions where I preferred the flat color step. Shading seems not to be for everyone.

This is probably less often the case than what other people mentioned tho
