TOMODATCHI LIFE: LIVING THE DREAM!!!
ON TYLENOL ISLAND!!!
(Yes, that's what I named my island)
so as a kid I didn't actually play on my 3DS that much, it wouldn't be until I was a teenager when I'd really start to get use out of the system, there were exceptions, like Yo-Kai watch, or Kirby Triple Deluxe, a bit of Pokemon, but when I was 11 I ended up getting a copy of Tomodatchi life, and that game was massive for me. I got about 120 hours in it total! I can't remember everyone I had on my island, but I put a stupid amount of people on there, friends, ex-friends, celebrities, an evil version of myself (which is a trope I find so hilarious I might have to bring that back lol) so someone who just wanted their little imaginary scenarios to play out I was hooked on that game. Especially after I lost my Miitopia cartridge (which, I did actually play that game first lol)
funnily enough I made a post about Tomodatchi life shortly before it had its direct back when I had a more skeptical opinion on it, and than the game got it direct and my opinion IMMEDIATELY changed. The amount of customization, and the inclusion of non-straight characters in particular.
(small tangent about people angry at the game for having gay people, skip this paragraph if you want lol) I find it really funny that a bunch of grifters started complaining about the inclusion of gay people in the game, calling it "inappropriate" when.... It's more innappropriate when they're straight?? If they're straight they have biological kids, implying intercourse, if they're gay they have no reason to unless they wanna do mpreg or smth (Note im not saying something as psychotic as "remove straights from the game" I'm just pointing out how flawed the logic of saying gay people are inherently inappropriate is) and the whole "no REAL gamers wanted this" is the default response to any progressive themes in gaming, aaaaand hmmm? You're telling me the people playing tomodatchi life don't want gay people? The game that is literally a stupid soap operate that will randomly play out infront of you?
anyways, played the demo and loved it, heres some drawings I did based on my time playing the demo. My characters on the island are my mascot, Ica, Skippy, the mascot of SkippySkyro, or Skyrodot on DA (as they included my oc in their Tomodatchi life save!), and Stormblade from Skylanders. Admittedly if I get the full game I probably won't carry over my progress since there are changes I'd want to make to personalities and such, and just completely restart their faces lol. I think it would be fun if my mascots personality was that of how I draw him rather than my own
anyways, we have him working as a store clerk. Funny enough, his favourite food in the demo was apples, which is amazing because I actually like to imagine him really liking apples specifically. Theres a drawing I never posted where he's having an emo crashout ™ eating an apple
next is Stormblade winking and summoning a cartoon heart, which was a small "what if?" scene at the end of the demo, the heart was aimed at Ica but landed on skips. He will pay for this./j
Than Ica enjoying some music all cheerful-like, nothing to be said. It's just recreations of the game, same as the maracas. I really like the outfit tho! I don't normally draw him so happy so this was an adorable change of pace.

lastly, Ica as a news reporter. He was going to say something slightly more specific but I decided to make it vague enough to be funny and relatable. There are so many awful problems in the world right now, so I guess you can project whichever one you're feeling the most onto this. (Oh and the "no boner" is a reference to artist "Eonstro" who had that written on a chalkboard in one of his post, I thought it was so funny I had to include it)
I don't plan to actually get the game, mainly due to the price. Back on the 3DS days, console games would be at a set price, and portable games would be at a lower price because they are smaller products, but now that we're using a hybrid console, everything is at the same, full price. Which especially stings now that Nintendo selects is gone. I got Tomodatchi life digitally for 20$ CAD, adjusted for inflation thats 25$, now, that was years after release, but do you expect this game to go on such a sale?
this also bleeds into why I'm not really a Nintendo fan much anymore, and why I think a Nintendo console needs to be secondary to another system, or PC. Like--you can just do more with a Playstation or an Xbox. Watch movies, play CD's, features I personally like a lot, and it can play previous gen games, so 2013 onwards, and even 6th or 7th gen games if you're an eggsbox apologist, or 5th/6th gens if youre on playstation! (No native PS3 backwards compatibility because its a tricky system to develop for lol) which, I'm not saying this as some kind of cringy "console wars" thing, I'm mainly talking about this from a consumer standpoint, if you're on the other platforms, you can get some of the greatest games of all time for dirt cheap--an example I'll use is, a friend of mine only has Nintendo as their most modern platforms and wants to play the fallout 4 remake but doesn't want to pay full price, when, on other platforms you could just get the original game and pay 10-20$ for it, I recommended getting a previous fallout game like 3 or new vegas since the pricing would be better for them. Since the switch is from 2017 and wasn't as powerful as its competition, and has no backwards compatability you miss out on a lot of great games from before than and miss out on more affordable ways to play some great games, if you are willing to pay the money power to you, I'm just saying Nintendo's position as a "luxury product" makes me personally lean towards other games
that being said the switch is INCREDIBLE for indie games, and some great games like Bioshock are cheap on there and regularly go on sale, there are deals to be had on Nintendo just nothing second-hand, or first-party. (since the aftermarket.... could be better, it's not terrible for some of the best selling early titles on switch! Odyssey for 30$ isn't bad!) there is a worthy counter argument against my point here, since the fact I can get all these great games for so cheap does lead to me owning a lot of games I bought for cheap only to not play them.
also, tomodatchi life did get me to start using my Nintendo switch more, in particular playing a collection of Namco games, I've been loving Galaga '88. Might replay Mario Odyssey, and I would LOVE to play Metroid Dread due to my Halo kick lol. I've owned Starlink: Battle for Atlas for a really long time, maybe I should play that?
