In the Kytixx Consortium's political system, which is founded on Radical Transparency (e.g., Public Ledgers, transparent political financing), the existence of clandestine organizations is often dismissed. This perception is actively encouraged and leverages the persistent myth of a shadowy paramilitary group known as the "Bande Nere" (The Black Band).
This myth serves as a convenient misdirection. The operational reality is a Tier 0 organization that does not officially exist: the **Trusted Ones**
1. Mandate and Operational Doctrine
The Trusted Ones are an elite, clandestine cadre of operatives existing outside the formal command structure of the Consortium military and its intelligence agency, CRAG.
Mandate: The Trusted Ones answer only to the Matriarchs and Patriarchs of Directors as a whole. It cannot be activated or directed by any single Family, requiring a consensus of the Board to deploy. It functions as the Board's strategic-level surgical instrument.
Doctrine (Systemic Stabilization): The Trusted Ones do not engage in conventional warfare. Its function is to pre-emptively neutralize strategic-level threats to the Consortium system itself, long before a formal military response becomes necessary. Their methods, often attributed to the mythical Bande Nere, are:
Financial/Legal Warfare: The Trusted Ones possess the unique authority to leverage and, if necessary, manipulate the Universal Ledger. They orchestrate hostile audits against rival corporations or political entities, engineering the "discovery" of fatal (and often fabricated) breaches of contract or fraud.
Counter-Intelligence: They excel at sophisticated entrapment operations designed to lure foreign agents (such as those from Tolesian CSAC or Aethelgard CUIA) into compromised positions, thereby exposing and neutralizing them while triggering a calculated diplomatic incident.
• Clandestine Operations: The Trusted Ones do not assassinate. They orchestrate accidents. A rival executive is not killed; their personal RapidFab "malfunctions," or their private ship's FTL fusion reactor "suffers a glitch" in deep space.
2. Induction, Service Contract, and Indoctrination
Operatives are not hired; they are inducted for life. The Trusted Ones recruit exclusively from the Bande Nere selecting for a precise combination of ruthlessness, intelligence, and psychological loyalty. The meeting to even receive the offer to become one is under lifelong and very punishable NDA. The normal rules of Kytixx contracting stop at the meeting room door.
• The Service Contract (The Indenture): The induction is a lifelong contract that encompasses the operative's entire family. The service term is 70 years, structured into ten 7-year rotations.
• The Family Contract: This is the down payment payment for the 70-year contract, agreed to upon signing. The agreement elevates the candidate into the aristocracy.
• Residence: The operative's family is granted stewardship of an older, unused Board palace.
• Spouse: Their spouse is instructed in high-level house management. While their spouse is away, they will be in charge of managing security, staff, and other items expected.
• Children: Their children attend the same schools as other minor houses and the Board of Directors, mingling with high society in the same specialized schools attended by the heirs of the Seven Families, integrating them into the pedigree class.
The Rotation Schedule
Rotation 1: The Forging (Years 1-7) The first 7 years of their service is a single, continuous Indoctrination Program designed to re-forge them from an operative into an Apex Predator. This year repeats until the final test is passed and then they start their rotations. Removal is possible here and the candidate will be ejected from the program with little hope of getting back in.
Year 1: Orientation. Total physical modification (biotech/cybernetics), physical fitness, and psychological conditioning.
Years 2: Hard Skills. Weapons and tactics.
Years 3-6: Soft Skills Development. This is what makes them Tier 0. They are not soldiers; they are infiltrators. They are taught: Etiquette, House Operations (how to run a palace), house staff management team, formal dining etiquette, dossier gathering, and the history of each house and their special requirements.
• Year 7: Final test and placement
The Standard Rotation (Service & Surveillance): These rotations are a cycle of work and soft-control integration
Year 1: Refresher Training (updates on tech, tactics, and politics).
Year 2: Active Duty (serving directly in the field with other operators).
Year 3: Support Role (serving as backup, cleaner, or analyst for a different field team).
Year 4: Decompression (a mandatory physical and mental health break).
Years 5-6: Estate Manager (assignment to a palace of one of the Seven Families).
Year 7: Estate Manager part 2 (assignment to a palace of a different Family).
The Internal Check-and-Balance: This Estate Manager posting is a Mutual Hostage Pact. The Trusted One monitors and protects the Family for the Board of Directors. However, the palace's own security detail is not part of the Consortium; it is faithful to the Family. This familial guard monitors the Trusted One, ensuring their true, sole loyalty remains with the Board as a whole.
The Diplomatic Rotation (External Service): These are specialized rotations to integrate the Trusted One into the Great Game externally.
Year 1: Refresher Training and specialized Diplomatic training
Years 2-6: Overseas Posting at a Kytixx diplomatic mission in foreign powers.
• Year 7: Decompression (a mandatory mental health break, and the operative is allowed to visit family)
Rotation 10: The Coronation (The Final Service) This is the Trusted One's final service and reward.
Years 1-6: Overseas Posting at the highest level available, up to a Charge d'Affaires, in direct line with the Consortium Foreign Director (the board member currently in that rotation). However this could be a prestigious posting elsewhere inside the consortium that puts them as close as possible to a board of director for final evaluation.
Year 7: The Coronation Year. The Consortium thanks the Trusted One for their 70 years of service by formally handing and honoring their house and welcoming it into the halls of the Consortium's highest rank.
Contract Fulfilled: The contract is fulfilled. The palace is now theirs. They are given an extremely high stipend for life.
• The Setting Sun: The Consortium will maintain the house (and stipend) _for as long as the Trusted One lives. After their death, it is on their children to maintain the house, ensuring the next generation is also tethered to the system (and motivated to maintain it)
Rotation 11: The Franchisee (The Ultimate Reward) This rotation is not guaranteed. It is offered only to those who show exemplary behavior during or after their 70-year service. It is the chance for the family to be part of a new ruling class
The 11th Rotation (The Course): This is a new, 7-year course in system management, colonial law, commerce, common and unusual pitfalls, and dossiers on the other franchisees. It is the ultimate promotion, jokingly referred to as the "11th Rotation."
The Colonial Project: The Board offers the Trusted One a colonial project. That has been presented to them by a group of investors.
The Prize: If the colony succeeds, the Trusted One and their house become part of a permanent hereditary ruling board for that new system franchise.
The Revenue: They are entitled to a their portion of the 37.5% of system revenue (approximately 5.36%) available to the Franchise Board as personal revenue.
• Upward Mobility: This is the one of two paths path for anyone to become a Founding Family member. The other is by marriage with a board family member.
