Don't think I've ever named a post after an onomatopoeia lol
at any rate, this is fanart of the lovely
Eonstro ! They are a digital artist from the United States who specializes in cartoon furries! (Like most artist I do fanart of, lol) You can find them on most social media platforms, actually! I was very surprised by this, so if you ever want to ditch DA for whatever reason, there will be an Eonstro at the corner.
I try not to draw peoples fursonas/mascots when I do these post but I could not help myself--an angsty, fashionable feline? You guys know that's way up my alley lol. Art of the character outdoor in the city very often, which is very fitting for a cat character--Absolutely love the racing motif he has, I'm under the assumption Eonstro is a nascar furry? Either way, it makes for an incredibly unique design, with the little logo sponsorships. Although--I do think for a colour palette of monotones and red, having these small bits of yellow and purple draws a lot of attention to his chest, I'm not sure if the colour choices really fit the art style? It kind of takes attention away imo--
actually! That reminds me, the art style!
Eonstro's art consist of cute, chibi furries, pretty much in its entirety (which does cause some issues, more on that later) using incredibly vibrant colours. Characters are always happy and playful, it's a really fun art style and I imagine very time efficient as well.

Facial and overall proportions are identical for most if not all characters--which is somewhat of an issue, yes, but I'd say these also make for an instantly recognizable "template" characters to follow, ala funko pops (just, you know, not ugly)

Zeni is probably my favourite of his oc's, they work within their art style super wel, with a simple, and clean colour palette that is incredibly striking. Honestly, I'd love to draw Xeni at some point XD (Xeni is such a swag autistic king 💪)

Though, an issue these designs can run into is when they go against simplicity and become more detail oriented, where Xeni works with their limited simple palette/detail work, characters like Arcadia really start to fall apart when they use so many different bright colours all given detail and all competing for your attention, where it's unclear of what you're supposed to focus on with the design. The hands and feet are glowing, so your attention is drawn to that, the face, psychologically is what people are normally drawn to, but the chest has so many different colours all of which are glowing so you're mainly staring at their torso which....? Is such a strange detail for the audience to focus on since that isn't used to convey expression nor is it really a particularly interesting part of their design compared to their doc oc arms. (that being said shoutout to the hilarious post of Arcadia where a window popup is used to censor a certain bad word

I do love the addition of the NES power glove tho, seriously seeing AVGN or Mordecai use those power gloves always made me think they were the coolest thing ever XD it is very much confirmation that Eonstro knows ball
One major issue I do have with Arcadia's design, however is the fact they're meant to be this big powerful villain but their design has the same streetware style their others oc's have. Very vibrant and casual, especially with the powerglove which just makes them seem like more like a playful nerd like a lot of the other characters
This is not, of course, saying that Eonstro having detail in their character designs is a bad thing, not at all. I think just detail distribution can change what we as the audience end up paying attention to in a character design.

this one right here--(not one of his own oc's to my knowledge) is a highlight of how I do think detailed designs can work in the art style when there isn't much out there colour variance so you aren't distracted, it's also nice that we have an alternate style of proportions for a character drawn in his style lol.
(also I laughed way too hard at the text "NO BONER" written on the chalkboard)
Diaspora (ontop of being one of my favourite big words) is another highlight for me, I have nothing constructive to say I just really like it lol
one thing I do really love about their art is when they do Pixelart, my previous issues about colour and detail aren't really as big of a problem when it's sprite art, where detail is more of a luxury, my favourite pixelart piece does go for a higher resolution, though, ironically.

though--the CRT filter is certainly doing a lot of the heavy lifting with this, still, it's great. It reminds me of something very specific, like, weird kids media you experience as a child and spend years wondering if it was just some weird fever dream, the only example of this aesthetic I can think of is Eggmania: Eggstreme Madness.
at any rate--the artist mentioned they're fine with critique, and although I did bring up some of my criticism throughout this post I'd like to bring up one last major point--I think this artist would really benefit from breaking out of their comfort zone a lot, I mean, their art has stayed VERY consistent, I don't mean dedicate your account to making oil paintings of fruit, or whatever, but make a post where you, say, try to use more advanced anatomy, or perspective, or fancier rendering, I think your art style would benefit from it a ton. You can use references, or tutorials, I just think the learning experience could go a long way.
the background is by FrançoiseEve, I found it through daily-public-domain on Tumblr , which, as the name would sugguest post public domain images people can use for whatever. In this case, furry art!
