Just with new subjects and some extra backstory to go along with it. A shorter one for sure but hope you enjoy the sleepy ruminations of a Sangheili!
A blink. Into a squint. Wind? The world slowly coming into focus for Taro as he sat up. But…he wasn’t lying down? Looking down rather than ahead the Sangheili would find himself floating above a dirt road. That then transitioned into asphalt. Now looking up again to see Human buildings. Damaged but still standing. A microcosm of the war that had finally ended. Defiant against the former Empire. As he floated along down the road. A few more blinks and eye rubbing before Taro would nod to himself. It wasn’t just any Human buildings. He had been here before. Last night in fact. Yeah…there was the same office he had been at before with the Shuttle Driver. Trying to find Ado. Before being told the great news.
Beep Beep
Ado had been actually on route to this place and would be here in the morning. Despite the veiled disgust the UNSC personnel had toward Taro and the pilot they did at least tell them that they hoped his brother would make it. The light ahead turning green as Taro floated away from the office. Through the intersection and down the road. Taro really had no idea what he expected to find when Ado did get back home. He had been in the war for two years before it happened. Taro giving a half wave to a Human who was floating the opposite way on the road - who didn’t even look up from her coffee. Ado had been through the Schism. Would he even want to come back to Sanghelios? Or would he have a new crew or lance already that needed him. Surely there was so much material out there from the former Empire that was now ‘free’ as long as you had the skill and crew to take it.
Beep Beep
At least Humanity and the Sangheili were mostly allied now. So they had a leg up on the other races to try and make sure former bad actors didn’t take anything…But surely there were bad actors in their races as well. Seeing this as the perfect chance to make themselves what exactly? Slowing to a stop at another intersection. Watching a Yanme'e hop along in front of him across the road. A Warlord? Or some kind of other lord of a sector. Carving out their own little fiefdoms like some kind of Kig-Yar Prince or Queen. Likely with just as much pirating. Taro barely even noticing that he turned right as his mind kept pushing him along his thoughts and travels. Was Ado planning on that? Well…Taro could help! Yes. That would start his own journey of greatness on the right path. Right hand to a new seat of power in the post war galaxy! He had done well in his War College courses. Not the top of the class in marksmanship or sword skills but had his technical skills. Ghosts and other ground craft were his forte! Surely a new power base would need vehicles to patrol and keep the peace. Ships he was less confident in. But you needed hoofs on the ground to keep the Unggoy working - or the Kig-Yar in their pens. He could do that!
Beep beep!
Taro finally roused from his dreams of conquest to see the same Human female with the coffee was floating right toward him. A small red light blinking in front of his face. The Sangheili reaching for where the Wraiths airbrake would be. But only grabbing air before ‘impact’. Both sentients stopping about five feet apart as their arms and legs shot forward. As if they were strapped into a seat. It was almost peaceful as Taro started to fall forward. Before there was a pop in front of him. A small white spec quickly growing to cover his entire view. Blowing up but stopping as a large circle. That he then fell into. It was very soft. His flailing hands squishing in as well as its construction was revealed to him. Some kind of hard fabric filled with gas. Comfortable. Like some kind of pillow of safety. Of protection. Much better than the Spectres crash system. In fact it was so comfortable that despite the crash Taro found himself turning his head to lay down against the bag of air. It was even warm. It started to deflate but that just made it softer to lean against. It was no longer so full that it was shoving him backwards. Just letting him sink into it. Sinking down and letting his troubles flow away like the air that was slowly exiting the back. A quiet hiss as he drifted back off to a restful safe sleep.
BEEPBEEP! “Taro! Rouse yourself!”
Waking with a start Taro would blink again and find himself holding the pillow he had been using to try to sleep. And looking up at the voice would reveal the Pilot looking down at him. “A true Warrior keeps to his schedule and alarm! Up! Now!” Why was he so tall? Taro looking back to see that he had fallen off the bunk he had been using. But luckily the pillow also fell with him to cushion his landing. Good. But right! The new day was upon him! So Taro would quickly get up to his knees and then his feet and stand upright and strong!
“Up and ready!”
“Good. Food will not wait or will your brother.” The pilot turning and walking off. Taro starting to follow him before looking down to see that he was still holding the pillow. Sheepishly retracting his steps to set the pillow back on his bunk before leaving to begin the day. To see how he could assist his returning brother in growing his legend - and starting Taros'.
And finding out more of that warm bag of air. A Human thing most likely. Just need to try and remember where he had seen it for it to sneak into his dream. Was it one of those poster advertisements? Or some…old handbook of some kind that he’d been given to help learn the language. An issue for later!
