The tiefling sorcerer I played in a 5th edition campaign!
He kind of has a warring duality to his character because his sorcery comes from a gold dragon ancestor, and he has some demonic influences from a deal his father made.
He has the same greed his father did, and is pretty vain. While not overly friendly, Cyrus is very used to having to make himself act more personable to compensate for being a tiefling in a mostly human town.
His father had a lot of dept and made a deal with a devil in order to escape the consequences of it. Eventually all that debt got passed on to Cyrus and he didn't really have any hope of paying it off. For the first 15 years of his life he worked for The Wobbegong Gang, and did basic grunt work for them. He was provided the bare minimum housing a food required to keep him alive but not much more. Once he turned 16 he was no longer afforded even that luxury. He was given an amount of money he had to pay monthly. For the first few months he struggled to find any work that would pay enough to meet his quota. Whenever this happened he would be beaten, and the missing sum would be tacked onto the next month’s quota.
Over the next few years Cyrus found that the best paying job for him was sailing. Specifically the kind where you were better off not asking too many questions. It worked especially well for him because he didn’t have to worry about buying food or lodging for himself while on the job.He has long since learned that his life isn’t his own.
At the start of our campaign he managed to steal a golden dragon scale and his debt token from the head of the Wobbegong gang in order to leave with the party. But not all debts have been forgiven, and demonic forces are after him.
