cause they're not snakes. for one, these things have ear holes, where snakes do not, and these guys have eyelids, where as snakes do not

Those that don't know can often confuse legless lizards for snakes... Same with people sometimes confusing coral snakes and milk snakes. However, that is certainly a lizard...of the legless variety. Funny looking one, at that.
