When it comes to cars made in the 21st century, few have managed to gain such a… reputation like the Cybertruck. Avoiding politics, it’s just trash. Absolute trash. From doors that’ll gladly cut your fingers off to its insta-rusting stainless steel body, there’s a lot (and I mean a LOT) wrong with it.
But what if it wasn’t like that?
That’s what I tried to do: change one of today’s most infamous vehicles and turn it around into the cassette futuristic truck it was destined to be. Sit down, we’re gonna be a while.
First: it’s front end. Easily the part of every electric car that makes me want to drink cyanide. If you couldn’t tell, I copied the Hummer EV’s fake grille with the brand name. While still capturing the essence of the original’s lights, of course.
Second: the C-pillar. While I changed the majority of the upper body to a more standard pickup design, I decided to get a little funky with the cab’s rear. Taking much inspiration from the pillar of the Mercury Turnpike Cruiser of the late 50’s, it sure makes the already standing-out car stand out even more. It’s rear window is even pushed in just like the Merc.
Next: it’s rear end. While I do find the singular taillight good-looking in some cases (just look at Rivians), that needed to go. ASAP. So, since I already put some 80’s in it, why not go even more out? And few rear ends look as good as the Delorean, IROC Camaro, and other sports cars of the time.
Finally: the paint. Let’s be honest, the stainless steel is HORRID. At least half the ones I see on the road are wrapped, anyways. So, why not give it some bright colors? Even more, why not take a book out of the 50’s with some good ‘ol two-tone? It’s not for everyone (and definitely for every car), but I think it works here.
