Things seem to be going downhill... rather abruptly, at that.
Ajabu seems to really like spending time in this den, all by himself. The vines also seem to be holding him down. Are they strong? How much strength do they really need, to restrict someone so young? What fate will befall our young adventurer next...?
For those who wish to stick with their own interpretations, I will hide the meaning behind spoiler text. You can hold onto that interpretation until this comic series is completed and see if it matches up with what happens later. If you do so, I would be curious to hear what you think about this, in the comments.
For everyone who wants to know: Even when faced with external validation - friendships, enriching conversation, fun and games, internally... a war is being fought. And so one retreats inward, wishing to remain undisturbed. Their thoughts grow, away from the influence of others. Self-validation - the worst kind. "I am not worthy of these things. Maybe, this is just who I am."
The first symptom of depression is a lack of interest in things someone once loved. Although a person losing enthusiasm for prior passions is not always a sign of depression (sometimes people just grow out of things or their priorities change) it is a symptom to pay attention to. If someone suddenly doesn't feel like doing anything or they seem to have lost all ambition and direction in life... that's a sign that their mental health is taking a huge hit.
