"Master, I do not seem to understand the purpose of this." Morgan said, staring amongst the stones of the ground. He clung to his cloak, the cold winds brushing against him.
His master, a rather strong lizardfolk of purple scales and wearing much warmer clothes than he, let out a chuckle. "This training is specific to your talents, young man." Leonidas said, gesturing to the stone in the center. "Balance atop of that stone, until you can truly tell me what balance is."
"Understanding the-"
"No no, not the things you hear the others gob about." The reptile said. "What true balance is. Once you do, we can begin your true training."
The silver fox sighed gently, but did as instructed. He got atop the strange rock, balancing his arms out as best he could. He felt the cold brisk around his entire body, but he would not relent himself so easily. But the winds were rather strong, and he fell onto his back with a soft thud. He groaned in pain, and stood up.
"What do you believe you did wrong?" Leonidas asked.
The fox pondered, staring at the rock. "I did not hold my arms out right?"
"You were focusing on other things. Concentrate on the here, and now. Nothing else in the world matters, but trying to stand atop that rock."
The fox slowly got up, and did it again. Over and over, he fell onto his back. And when he did, he got back up to stand atop the rock. He kept his focus on the now, but outside thoughts kept clouding him. Wondering what his friends testing was like, what his next meal would be, and how his master didn't think it wasn't so cold. But he did his best, focusing less on those thoughts, and on other things. The sound of the wind against the grass, the feel of the rock, and the sensation of the cold. And in that moment, he kept still. He did not fall.
His master crossed his arms, smiling at the fox. "What is balance, young apprentice?"
"Balance is...understanding what is important here, and letting yourself able to feel all aspects of life. Not just the past, or future, what is important in the present."
"And by taking in all aspects of where you are and who you are, you are able to find true balance...in yourself."
