A recipe I've been meaning to try for years now. They turned out to be some of the tastiest dogs I've ever had in my life. I hope you like them too!
What You'll Need:
-1 package of bratwurst (beef or pork. I used pork.)
-2 tablespoons butter
-1/4 sliced onion
-1 tablespoon of minced garlic (I used jarlic because I'm lazy and it's easier and works just as well.)
-1 can or bottle of preferred beer. Something on the light/medium side like a lager or a pilsner.
-olive oil
-1 skillet with a lid. (mandatory)
-hot dog buns. Spring for the fatter higher quality ones.
-preferred condiments (I used mayo and brown mustard)
Step 1:
Start by melting the butter in the skillet on medium heat and tossing in the onions and garlic. Continue to sweat the onions until they turn clear. About 3-5 minutes give or take. Remove from pan and set aside for now making sure to leave as much grease in the pan behind as you can.
Step 2:
Add preferred amount of brats to the skillet (I cooked just 2) and pour in about half the can of beer. Drink the rest or save it for your meal. Place the lid on top and cook at med-high heat for 3 minutes on one side, then flip and repeat.
Step 3:
Remove brats from the skillet and drain excess beer from pan. As the beer evaporates it can burn easily. Once the pan is drained, add olive oil and return the brats to the skillet to sear on both sides. Cook an addition 3-5 minutes until fully cooked through. Always give a quick slice through the middle to make sure there's no more pink, especially if they're pork.
Step 4:
Remove buns from package. Grill them if you'd like, I didn't bother. Add the onions on the bottom (or top, I like adding mine on the bottom to hold them in place and for the grease to absorb into the bread) followed by your brats and topped with preferred condiments.
Goes best with a side of potato chips or fries. Enjoy!

Fresh Garlic is good 100%
But I actually prefer the more buttery like taste and softer texture of the jarred stuff , and like I said I like that the oil is often comes with adds to the flavor.
Its also just cheaper to use fresh stuff though , some of those jars you can get like 5 times worth of fresh stuff for the same price
