Map of the New World
"Three hundred years ago, our understanding of reality was forever shaken to it's foundational core. The universe, once thought to all of existence, was revealed to be merely half of a whole. It has an older, much greater opposite: Abeyance. But what is Abeyance, actually?"
"Well, unlike the universe, it can hard to create a mental image of Abeyance. When you think of the Universe you think of space. A great black void filled with stars, planets, and galaxies. This is possible because of it's nature. Through an empty void like space, we may perceive things like light and material, the chemical make-up of it can be, with reasonable effort, visibly comprehended, even with the naked eye. In Abeyance, however, this does not work."
"You see, Abeyance is not a void filled with planets, it is a single heaving sea of matter within which stable pockets of what we would deem reality, or space, have been created. It is easiest to picture Abeyance as a sea. A great expanse of Higgs Particles in which these "Islands", sometimes called Vivariums, are suspended. This is the first great difference between the two. The Universe is a sea of nothingness with planets and stars as islands. Abeyance is a sea of raw, pure matter with Vivariums as its islands."
The second, and arguably even more important difference between the two, is the nature of chaos versus control. The Universe, as we well known, is controlled chaos. The laws of physics and time are what constrain it, however there is little to no artificial interference with it's process. As long as the chaos follows the rules, it is chaos that creates what we now know."
"Abeyance, again, works in a opposite manner. To simplify a greatly complex issue, Abeyance is everything, everywhere, always. The only singular law that constrains it is time. Chemistry, physics, thermo-dynamics, gravity... all of these are optional, non-existent yet always existent within the base of Abeyance. Therefore, with such little chaos to allow for reaction, how does anything happen? Eternal Engines. Thanks to the nature of Abeyance, these unseen, god-like beings can craft worlds as they desire, literally forging new Islands into existence whenever they please, to serve any manner of purposes. As such, Abeyance is a realm of purposefully built lands. Nearly everything is by design, it is merely that more often than not, the purpose of that design eludes mere mortals."
"Now, as much as I would like to enter the topic of the Eternal Engines themselves, I fear this lecture has gone on long enough as is. However, hopefully this has made Abeyance a far less scary, far more understandable place for you. In many ways, it is very much like the Universe: Once you understand it, the fear begins to subside. If it was not safe, we would not be sending you out there in the first place. Grayline has been successfully establishing peaceful colonies in abeyance for over two hundred years now, and with your dedication, hard work, and determination, we hope that you will join that long list of colonists who braved the new world to start a new life, and help bring all of us one step closer to going back home to where we really belong. Thank you."

Decided to do this as a warm-up now that im back from vacation! Consider this a promise that I'll start getting around to making more proper lore pages for you soon!
For now, this is effectively a map of the major locations in Alter and whether they exist in the Universe or Abeyance, along with some fun esoterica.~
Athanasy is the last standing planet in the Universe with friendly organic life after the events of the Great Fall and the Godbreak. This is where the Three Great Empires resettled, established their new capitals, and eventually formed the Trifecta Alliance, along with the Grayline Organization stationed in Ambershore.
As always, feedback is welcome and appreciated!
I'm also happy to answer any lore questions curious followers may have!

Through something called a Nalston Gateway. Effectively, its a artificial White Hole that can but shut on and off. The catch is they can only access pre-existing leylines made by Eternal Engines, so you can't quite set a straight path to where you want to go.
Think of it like you wanna travel from San Diego California to Dallas Texas, but instead of just taking the main highway that connects the two you can ONLY use pre-existing roads carved out by the pioneers, or nature, no matter how circuitous that route may be.

Fair! In this scenario, a Black Hole at its core is an entrance into Abeyance, while a White Hole is an exit. The reason that Nalston drives utilize the "exit" to enter is similar to why we have to use Fission instead of Fusion in Nuclear Reactors. Mortals have found a way to control and contain a white hole, basically tearing a tunnel into it to go against its flow, but there is currently no way to create and maintain a black hole for the same purpose.
The Universe exists because of the Eternal Engines. They create a Big Bang, which activates a universe, and once it has experienced its nature heat death, they start all over with different variables, yes. The 9th iteration is special because its the first time sapient organic life became prolific.~
This would take some time...the natural heat death of the universe won't hapen until billions of billions of billions of years... So to have this 8 times before...
The ruins they found in this expedition in the caves that were used to drain the water of the giant facility is from previous iteration of the universe, right ? If so, it's impossibly old, it's age, if it was to be counted in human years, would need to be written with powers of powers of powers...
Now THAT's archaeology

Yeah, but damn, even if it's made out of hard stone... lasting for billions of billions of billions of years... this is only possible in abeyance, especially if the protons are unstable over long periods of time (like thousands of billions of years, wich is nothing for the eternal engines), because then every atom would just cease to exist. The matter as we know it wouldn't even last for a fraction of the time it would take for the universe to reach it's heat death even once.
Don't forget that in Abeyance the only consistent law is time itself. The very chemistry and psychics of a Abeyic Island can be forged to the will of an Eternal Engine. If they want their continent sized Eldritch processor to not suffer the dangers of weathering, beta decay, or simple age, they can strongly influence these factors. Of course, that's also ignoring the fact that these beings have enjoyed nearly 1 trillion years of time to perfect the materials and designs they use.
The reason that biology and organic life in all its forms is so confusing for them is because it's literally a brand new age completely alien phenomenon. The very concept of it is a mere dozen billion years old or so. To them that's the blink of an eye. Flora and basic cellular life in Iteration 7, the first sapient life (the Illidians) in Iteration 8, and finally the "Great Bio Explosion" in Iteration 9.

Yes! I plan to address it in my lore pages when I get around to them. It's an event that happened, in this setting, over 300 years ago, but it will be brought up a fair bit. Effectively, each of the Three Great Empires was attacked by one of the three disciples of the Eternal Engine Annihilation, with each approaching the attempted destruction of each empire in their own way.
The original alternative was simply resetting the universe again. However the process of erasing a universe prematurely and then forging a new Big Bang would have required an obscene about of energy and would have been prohibitively wasteful.
The God-Break was Alter making a statement. It will not permit organic life to be destroyed, no matter what it must do to keep it alive.

It is, quite frankly, completely unrelated to this, but- as an aromantic, Iām curious as to how the hell love potions or stuff like it would affect us. Seems like a neat thing to tackle in a sketch or 2. Still, apologies on (possibly?) requesting again. My ADD and hyperextroversion does not make shutting up easy on me-
Ya, the entire Athanasy System is free, but its the last safe, viable free location in space for those resisting Annihilation and its ilk. There are space stations and colonies on the other planets and moons of the system.
You shall soon enough once i get brave enough to draw them. I'm still learning and my a little overly-cautious and overly-hesitant from time to time ^^'

i would love to deep dive into lore of the world you created, but honestly my english is so bad + i don't know from where to start... i am literally confused and dont know what to do about it š. from what i've read so far - its really exciting and interesting, i would appreciate if you helped me understand from what point i should start š„¹
I do intentionally use a lot of biblical imagery and concepts in this story. In many ways Limbo is the origin of the concept of Heaven for humans. IT has gods, "angels" and "demons". The Gabrieli are named after the guardian angel Gabriel. Empyrean is the cosmological word for the highest level of Heaven.~ All three of the mortal species find that their spiritual and religious beliefs can be found represented in so facet or another within Abeyance.~
