a little while ago, when i was commissioning Foxovh for that $85 sketch of Mina the Hollower, i was being gaslit by the entire modern internet over how many digits a rat or mouse has.
spoilers: they have five toes on each foot (one of them being a sort of non-opposable thumb), and four fingers on each hand, although they have a vestigial wristbone on their hands where a thumb used to be. rats and mice can use their hands for tool manipulation but cannot walk bipedally...
this information was extremely difficult for me to find. ChatGPT would say 20 and then 18 and then say that 4+4+5+5=20. haha, AI is useless! i took to looking online with google image search but many of the images were either AI generated or were photos of lab mice that were deliberately altered to have more or less digits than normal.
this image here was the only one i could find that showed both hands and feet clearly, but sadly it was a JPEG and i hate lossy filetypes. i don't even know why it was JPEG because a PNG this size would take up negligable space. i found it on a scientific page but i doubt i'd be able to find it again because google lens is garbage and all third party reverse image search platforms just plug directly into google anyway.
anyway, i ended up using the desaturate tool in krita (to remove the rainbow artifacting JPEG compression can add, which is very stubborn) and redrew the white text and black background to restore it to lossless quality... just because i care that much. i did it on my phone! *cries*
for my mina commission i ended up requesting 5 digit hands and 5 digit feet because i wasn't sure at the time, which makes sense because human hands are usually a given for anthros. i usually request my skaven gals with 4 fingers though. i'm a stickler for accurate anatomy (autism).
