Yeah, this was inevitable lol. My sona dressed up as the dream jester I’ve been smitten with since October of last year. NiGHTS. I’ve made it no secret at this point I love them. And I love their outfit! Well, there outfits I guess you could say seeing as how their design changes between Into Dreams and Journy of Dreams. Granted it’s not a major design change between games but I am still going the Journy of Dreams design for this pic since I personally prefer it just a bit more. And also a teeny tiny bit of nostalgia two I guess seeing as how even before I ever actually played a NiGHTS game I grew up with SEGA Superstars Tennis which uses the JoD designs for both NiGHTS and Reala and despite owning Sonic Riders I was never actually able to unlock NiGHTS in that game and only had a single session with the original SEGA Superstars. Regardless of how different the designs actually are with how in love with this series and this character I’ve become getting a pic of my sona cosplaying as them just worked.

Plus, considering I’ve gotten my sona dressed up as Shantae AND I’ve started imagining my sona and Shantae in a three way ship with NiGHTS it’s only fair I get them as the jester. Considering the whole Dualizing thing in the games where the main kid characters literally fuse with NiGHTS and more or less become them this is actually a really fitting cosplay idea! Difference being I don’t need to physically touch NiGHTS to dress up as them. That, and I’m playing out in my head NiGHTS gave my sona a set of their outfit heh. To be honest, NiGHTS couldn’t of re-entered my life at a better time because much like how I got into the Shantae series during a really rough point in my life back in 2016, 2024 is a contender for the honest to God worst year of my life for a wide variety of reasons. Me reaching my breaking point in regards to how much I could take form the internet, mainly gamers and TV/Movie communities, to the point where even now I’m actively trying to stay off this platform as much as I can since muting the gaming and movie/TV chats on every Discord server I’m on and closing my Twitter account hasn’t actually helped as much as I thought it would in regards to avoiding the constant negativity and making others feel like garbage for even liking certain media being one of them.

Granted, the NiGHTS games were not the only thing that helped me get though that mentally taxing year, Stellar Blade also helped a lot in that regard and was arguably my favourite game that came out that year, but man the height to which the NiGHTS games did was really dam high. I actually forgot I had Into Dreams on my Steam library for a long time and wish I had played sooner than I did lol. Granted my original playthrough was on the Xbox version which I got that for free from back when Microsoft was actually giving out free monthly games via Xbox Gold but still. Here’s hoping SEGA does something with the jester again soon. Or at the very least do a Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Series like remaster of the two games because I’m still upset they delisted Into Dreams from Stream. Have I ever mentioned I care a lot about preserving older games?
