Just a fun story I came up with after finding out the Japanese name of a Yugioh card.
It was a chilly Autumn evening in Bakersville and Todd Baker was on his way to the local game shop to play a few rounds of his favorite card game. He wasn't great at it, but he had fun with it and hanging out with a few friends. Though something should be known about this game shop: Unlike your local shop this one could project small holograms of the monsters that were summoned. Due to mechanical limitations they never stood more than six inches tall, but it still made for interesting visuals.
He gave his usual cautious wave and head nod to a few people as he made his way over to his usual corner of the shop and waited for someone to face off against, blushing when Whitney the beautiful bunny waved at him with a flirty look on her face.
His first opponent of the evening sat down a few minutes after he did, a tall, slender, and fairly soft spoken maned wolf from the other end of town. In truth he was a Catholic priest by the name of Father Raphael Jacobs but he did enjoy a good game on occasion. Though he usually wasn’t one for tournaments, preferring the occasional match at the shop when his duties allowed.
After their respective decks were shuffled thoroughly, Todd motioned for his opponent to start.
He looked at his cards for a moment plotting his strategy as the hologram table buzzed warming up for the game. He started with the spell card Double Summon which allowed him to normal summon two monsters instead of one this turn.
He then followed it up by summoning Jain, Lightsworn Paladin followed by Garoth, Lightsworn Warrior he then set one card face down. At his end phase Jain sent the top two cards of his deck to the graveyard, which in turn caused Garoth to do the same. The cards Garoth sent were two copies of Wulf, Lightsworn Beast which summoned themselves from the graveyard due to their effects. Garoth's own allowing Raphael to then draw two new cards.
Raphael: "Your move my friend."
Todd nodded and summoned out the Tuner monster Phantom King Hydride, he then discarded the monster Ret-time Reviver Emit-ter* to summon The Tricky. He then sent The Tricky as well as Hydride to the graveyard to summon the Synchro monster Blackfeather Darkrage Dragon, its wings fluttering as black as a moonless midnight. Though it stood alone, it was stronger than any monster Raphael had on board. He then declared an attack on Jain, dealing 1,000 damage to Raphael's Life Points, reducing them to 7,000. Todd then set two cards face-down and ended his turn.
Todd: "Sorry Father."
Raphael: "No need to apologize my friend, after all this is how you play the game."
Raphael then drew for his turn and summoned out a new copy of Jain from his hand, he then used one Wulf and Garoth as material to Xyz Summon Minerva, the Exalted Lightsworn. He then used her effect, detaching one material from her and sending the top three cards of his deck to the graveyard.
Among them were two Lightsworn monsters, allowing him to draw two new cards.
Todd: "Better be careful, I wouldn't want your lights to burn out with all of that."
Raphael: "Don't worry yourself, the light shall always overcome the darkness." He then activated Raigeki and took out Todd's lone monster, before attacking directly with Wulf, Jain, and Minerva dealing Todd a total of 5,900 damage. Taking him down to 2,100 Life Points.
Todd: "Okay... you got me on that one. But I'm not out yet."
Jain's effect then sent the top two cards of Raphael's deck to the graveyard as he ended his turn.
Raphael: "Your move my friend."
Todd then drew what would likely be his last card in this round. He summoned Photon Thrasher using its effect since he had no monsters on his field, it appeared with a brilliant flash of light. He then normal summoned Giant Soldier of Stone and then something came to mind...
Todd: "This is probably going to be a bad idea but I don't have much of a choice." He then used the effect of Ret-time Reviver Emit-ter in his graveyard. Targeting his Giant Soldier and Raphael's Jain and setting them face down to summon it, but something odd happened when it hit the field. Instead of the normal hologram it spun around to face him and glitched to look like a sad, yet beautiful Doberman girl dressed in green. She smiled sweetly at him before the hologram returned to normal. He couldn't place her but somehow it felt like he knew her from somewhere, or rather like he should know her.
Raphael: "Todd, are you okay?"
Todd paused a moment trying to figure out the odd occurrence: "Y-yeah, I activate my face down Imperial Iron Wall. I now send Ret-time Reviver Emit-ter and Photon Thrasher to the graveyard to synchro summon Vulcan the Divine." He then used its effect, returning Imperial Iron Wall to his hand, and Minerva to Raphael's hand.
Raphael: "Clever way to get around my monster's effect." Todd nodded and activated his remaining face-down card Rocket Hand, which equipped to Vulcan raising its attack by 800. He then attacked Jain, reducing Raphael's Life Points to 6,000.
Todd: "Not making much progress am I?" He chuckled.
Raphael: "Not quite, but some progress is better than none at all."
The Father started his turn and summoned Ryko, Twilightsworn Fighter and used it's effect banishing a copy of Jain from his graveyard to banish Todd's Vulcan.
Todd: "Oh no, I'm out aren't I?"
Raphael: "Afraid so my friend." He then attacked Todd's Life Points directly with Wulf reducing them to 0.
Todd: "Heh, I really wasn't bringing my a-game today was I?"
Raphael: "No, but what was the deck you were using? That wasn't your usual style."
Todd looked over to his usual opponent Whitney before looking back to the victor and said: "I was playing this deck on a bet with Whitney. She said I was only winning because I had a strong deck rather than any real skill."
Todd and Father Jacobs looked at each other and shared a warm chuckle before staring the next round.
