It's Spooky Month! Last year I did a bunch of classic horror story characters as pokemon: Count Dracula, Victor Frankenstein, Jekyll and Hyde, etc...
I decided I wanted to do something like that again this year but with a little twist. First of all, instead of horror I decided to go a different direction capturing another side of Halloween: Fun (with some scariness mixed in)
This year the theme is Fairytales.
I had an idea I wanted to explore: These pokemon are NOT meant to be taken as the characters from their respective fairy tales, these are kids who are wearing costumes that allow them to embody the story for which they are dressed as and gain abilities associated with their character/story, so a character might not just be the character who they resemble but a culmination of the entire story, and stories can be very powerful!
Brothers Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm embody the spirit of the story of The Two Brothers.
There were two brothers: A wealthy goldsmith and a poor broom maker who had twin boys of his own. The Broom maker brother caught a golden bird and sold it to his brother for a great sum, but only his brother knew how to use the bird: Whoever ate it's heart and liver would find a gold coin under their pillow every night, except his nephews managed to eat the bird before their uncle.
The Goldsmith brother convinced their father that his sons were in league with the devil, and that he should abandon them, but a huntsman found the boys in the wilderness and took them in teaching the boys his trade. The boys grow up and go off to seek their own fortune, but before they left, their Huntsman mentor gives them both a dagger with a special property so they could always tell if their twin was ok, if the other wasn't doing well then the edge of the dagger would rust.
One of the brother's saved a princess from a multiheaded dragon, and the princess offers to wed him, but in the night the king's marshal cuts off the brother's head, steals the Dragon heads and the princess, and pretends he was the one to slay the dragon, but his animal friends knew of a magic remedy for decapitation and revived him.
A year later, he goes to attend the Princess's wedding to the marshal and ask the king where the dragon's tongues are. The king opens their mouths to reveal that the tongues had been removed and then the brother produced the tongues which he had cut from the dragon's mouth when he defeated the Dragon and how the marshal killed him to take the credit. The Princess confirms the story and the marshal is executed, then the brother marries the princess.
Then after some nonsense with a Witch turning people to stone and more decapitating the two brothers are eventually reunited.
