It's the heat, the heat, I tell you.
Oh, it's the heat? I hadn't noticed.
What with all the fur on us? Yeah, I
think you're right. It's the heat.
Well, there's at least one very
wet answer to that...

On Summer's Heat
Cool water in the pond; we’re submarines.
Just muzzles up, fur schnorkels in the air.
In warmth like this? I sorta curse our genes.
Try sweating with thick pelt. But we don’t care.
The water’s cold, meaning that we’re in bliss.
Spring-fed and crystal clear. Relaxed, we float.
The realtor had us hooked when she showed this.
I’ve tried, but wolf jaws really can’t catch trout.
I turn and dive, swim down, look up and see,
The female curves, the tail, the ears. I rise
To seize my chance, fangs aimed. There will not be
A miss; so sue me as I fantasize.
Da-dum, da-dum. Bite! A shriek! Then more.
It took us quite a while to get to shore.
Oh, it's the heat? I hadn't noticed.
What with all the fur on us? Yeah, I
think you're right. It's the heat.
Well, there's at least one very

Ha!! Valiant efforts ain't good enough with sonnets. Study that closely; pretty sure it's spot-on.
1st line of the second stanza could be criticized. But still works fine.
Or have you seen the rest of them?
On Persuasion
On Aggression
On Relationships
On Seduction
I'm on a roll here. And I *like* it.

I used to write poetry and stopped because... well, it's hard, and no one reads the shit except friends and family, and I got tired of the strained smiles that looked suspiciously like the ones I used to give my granpa when he pulled out the slides....
Death by Vacation Powerpoint. BLeach.

Ahhhh, mastery, I read some. You caught the Elizabethan voice with precision. That came
out of some serious poetry study.
Me, I point to my Mum's copy of Complete Works as the start and end point. Everybody else in
English class just had the school-issue texts.
When bored I browsed widely; memorized perhaps 20 sonnets? 116, high on the fave list. 115
too; that opening line.
The language has changed. Mr. Bill's sheer ornateness is only for the Real Afficiandos now.
But the idea of a sonnet, a neat little formal hand grenade made of words: oh yah, we can
do things with this.
Like let a wolf and a bunny, who are deeply in love, tell us all about it. S cranked out 150
of the lovely puppies.
Let's see if I can match him (in quantity, if only approaching him in quality).
And I remain,
Gotta write a really *really* dirty one sometime; wolf and bunny after all, :- )

Glad you liked it. There's something 'concentrated' to the sonnet form, that requires you
to sweat to bang the right words into place. Sometimes easy, sometimes not.
But when it works the thing can really click. We'll see how many I can come up with. No
signs of stopping so far.
