It's Spooky Month! Last year I did a bunch of classic horror story characters as pokemon: Count Dracula, Victor Frankenstein, Jekyll and Hyde, etc...
I decided I wanted to do something like that again this year but with a little twist. First of all, instead of horror I decided to go a different direction capturing another side of Halloween: Fun (with some scariness mixed in)
This year the theme is Fairytales.
I had an idea I wanted to explore:
These pokemon are NOT meant to be taken as the characters from their respective fairy tales, these are kids who are wearing costumes that allow them to embody the story for which they are dressed as and gain abilities associated with their character/story, so a character might not just be the character who they resemble but a culmination of the entire story, and stories can be very powerful!
Ashton is the youngest son of a large poor family of miners in a rural mountain village. His family wants to keep him safe from being a part of the coal mines and eventually make a better life for himself, but Ashton does not understand this yet and does not have big asportations to succeed or have a plan for his own future. He wants to prove he can be brave like the rest of his family and adventure into dark scary places for treasure.
Ashton has embodied the story of The Ash Lad or "Askeladden" a Norwegian fairytale about a young boy who is the runt of his family, but when adventure comes to him he manages to overcome danger and incredible odds by being clever, and eventually becoming regarded as a great hero!
The Ash Lad has a variety of different stories to his name, outsmarting trolls, solving challenging tasks, becoming engaged to princesses, and so on. It was hard to decide what powers he would gain by embodying the spirit of The Ash Lad story. His main power is his courage and his mine, but for fun I imagine he can pull out tricks and illusions by casting ash, soot, and dust in the air. It could be as simple as a smokescreen cover to disappear, or he could create a bunch of ash copies of himself to throw off enemies.
