So, last week's
Thursday_Prompt was 'tissue', and I decided to go with an unlikely meaning for that, using 'muscle tissue', and went with Huntress. Then I got distracted before finishing it, and the next prompt was 'forgetfulness', and I decided 'hey, I can actually work that into the same story', and so I did. Still didn't entirely finish where I was going, but reached a good stopping point, at least. And I haven't really decided how it was going to end anyway.
I figure this is one of Huntress' really early adventures, even before she met Deedee, from when she was dealing with less reputable clients because she didn't have much of a reputation herself yet.

Heh, pretty much.
And yeah, I was kind of thinking of a Musk-like figure here for the unseen antagonist, the ultimate version of the old line of 'born on third base and thinks he hit a triple'. Someone who thinks he's an unparalleled genius and a self-made man, but really not as smart or capable as he thinks he is, just had a lot more luck than he's willing to admit.

I mean, it's not like all the moon is there for exactly the same reason either, they just have a basic preferred outcome in common.
Really, this means that Huntress has done something more dangerous than she might understand yet: by startling them and getting them to think like individuals again rather than a mob, she's probably accelerated the inevitable breakdown of the mob into internal squabbles of what they actually want to do next, or recriminations about what each other have already done that wasn't what they personally wanted.

The problem is that if they spread out, they're harder to keep an eye on. Sure, any individual person who gets in your way will be easier to deal with, but the chance that someone will get in your way will probably be higher, and there's a greater chance of them trying to be clever about it.
Very much a mixed bag. But Huntress, for reasons that made perfect sense at the time, has made her erstwhile allies less predictable.
Still haven't figured out exactly how this is going to end.

Thanks! I had some fun with this; Huntress isn't normally an emotionally expressive person (I've used the term 'flattened affect' before; I figure a job like this is prime PTSD bait) but putting her in a situation where her professionalism is the only thing preventing her from openly just face-palming at her 'allies' is interesting.
Yes, I posted the link; it's the last comment on both the 2025‐09‐18 and 2025-09-25 prompts, though it wasn't posted on either until just a couple of hours before the 2025-10-02 prompt went up.
Speaking of which, I finished the 'close' story on Tuesday, but an waiting on permission from one of the people whose characters I used to get back to me about their use.
